All-Time Series
Despite being separated by just 81 miles, Wednesday will be the first time Navy and Delaware will face one another in women's lacrosse.
The Blue Hens are currently a member of the Atlantic Sun. The Midshipmen are 8-1 (.889) all-time against members of the ASun, posting a 5-0 (1.000) against Liberty and a 3-1 (.750) mark against Jacksonville.
The Mids have no players from the state of Delaware, while 12 student-athletes for the Blue Hens – Julia Ciufo (Reisterstown), Ellie Dassoulas (Towson), Nichelle Desbordes (Ellicott City), Amanda Gazelle (Odenton), Maddie George (Centreville), Morgan Gore (Crofton), Lara Hoeflich (Glenelg), Erin Hussey (Severna Park), Jaclyn Marszal (Catonsville), Steph Marszal (Catonsville), Sam Paradise (Perry Hall), and Maggie Porter (Stevenson) – call Maryland home.
Scouting the Midshipmen
The Navy women's lacrosse team enters the week 2-0 on the young season, defeating #10 Virginia (W, 12-10) and routing Villanova (W, 18-5).
As a team, the Midshipmen have tallied 30 goals with 19 assists, while picking up 35 ground balls, winning 26 draw controls, and causing 16 turnovers.
Entering the week,
Taylor Miles,
Alyssa Chung, and
Ava Yovino lead the team. Miles paces the team with 10 points on four goals and six assists, while Chung and Yovino are one point back with nine. Chung boasts a team-best eight goals with an assist, while Yovino has three scores and six helpers.
Chloe Brown,
Maggie DeFabio, and
Emma Kennedy follow with four points apiece. Brown and DeFabio match one another with three goals and an assist, while Kennedy has four goals for her four points. One point back are
Anna Gotterup and
Mikayla Williams. Gotterup has three points on a goal and two assists, while Williams has two goals and one assist.
Caroline Gage and
Grace Mitchell have one goal apiece for one point each, while
Rowan Kimmel has a point on an assist.
Defensively, the Midshipmen have caused 16 of their opponents' 27 turnovers. Kennedy, Yovino,
Felicia Giglio, and
Lily Schmalz lead the charge with two takeaways apiece, while eight other Mids have been credited with caused turnovers. Schmalz and Yovino lead the team with five ground balls apiece, while Chung, DeFabio, Gage, Giglio,
Landen Cain, and
Jalin Jenkins follow with three each. Kennedy, Miles, and
Jaclyn Johns also have multiple ground ball pickups.
Giglio has played and started each game for Navy in the cage, working 115:36 minutes of action between the posts. The junior goalie has 14 of the Mids' 15 saves on the year with a 7.79 goals against average. Freshman goalkeeper
Angelina Price saw her first collegiate action against Villanova. The rookie posted a clean sheet with a save in just under four and a half minutes of action.
The Mids have a 26-21 advantage in draw controls on the young season.
Maura Murphy boasts a team-high 10 draw wins with Yovino two back with eight. Kennedy adds four draw wins with four others chipping in one apiece.
Scouting the Opposition
Delaware enters the game 0-2 on the season. The Blue Hens are in search of their first win of 2026 and looking to avoid their first 0-3 start since 2020.
In Delaware's home-opening setback to Rutgers, junior Kat Baseggio finished with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. She set a new career high for ground balls, while tying her career high for caused turnovers. The junior reached the 50-career ground ball milestone in her 34th-career game. The five ground balls are the most in a game by a Delaware player since March 6, 2024.
Against Rutgers, senior Maggie Farragher recorded a career-high four caused turnovers and sophomore Sydney O'Donnell had a personal-best three caused turnovers. Senior McKenzie Didio scored her 16th-career goal, and first since April 12, 2024.
National Rankings
The Navy women's lacrosse team remained ranked in all three national polls, following an 18-5 victory over Villanova in the home opener over the weekend. The Midshipmen are 11th according to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and the Inside Lacrosse KANE Women's Division I Media Polls, while coming in at #12 in the USA Lacrosse poll.
The Midshipmen began the season 16th in the preseason polls according to the IWLCA and the Inside Lacrosse, while opening the year at #14 in the USA Lacrosse preseason poll.
In its history, Navy has been ranked 110 total weeks, including a stretch of 46 weeks from the final poll of 2017 (May 30) to April 5, 2021. The Mids' first appearance in the national rankings came on March 11, 2013, coming in at #20. The Midshipmen's highest ranking – sixth – came in the final polls of the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Last season, the Midshipmen were in the top 25 poll for 14 weeks, rising as high as #16 and finishing the year 18th.
Patriot League Athletes of the Week
The Patriot League announced its weekly women's lacrosse award winners and Navy's
Taylor Miles and
Felicia Giglio were among the student-athletes recognized. Miles was named Attacker of the Week, while Giglio was selected as Goalkeeper of the Week. The duo helped lead Navy to home-opening win over Villanova, 18-5, on Saturday morning at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Miles recorded a career-high nine points on a season-high three goals and a career-best six assists with two ground balls and a caused turnover. Her nine points are the fourth-most in a game in program history, while her six assists are the fifth-most in school history in a single game. She is the first Navy player to record nine or more points in a game since senior
Ava Yovino had 10 points as a freshman in 2023. Additionally, Miles is the first Midshipmen to have six or more assists since Yovino had six helpers as a freshman in 2023. The hat trick was Miles' first of the season and the second of her career. Navy used an 11-0 run to break the game open and Miles had a goal and four assists for the Mids during the run.
Giglio earned her second win of the season, working 55:36 in the cage. She allowed just five goals, while registering eight saves. The junior helped Navy hold the prolific Villanova offense to just five goals, keeping the Wildcats out of the net in the entire second quarter. With her first save of the game, Giglio registered her 250th career save, becoming the fourth player in program history with 250 or more saves, joining Ingrid Boyum (2015-18) – 428 saves, Elaina Ponchione (2009-12) – 375 saves, and Annie Foky (2012-15) – 257 saves.
