BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Navy's
Austin Benigni has been selected as this week's Patriot League Player of the Week, the league office announced today. It is his third weekly award of the season and seventh of his career.
Benigni averaged 26.0 points and 5.0 assists per game last week in victories over Lehigh and Army. He also shot 48.1 percent (13-27) from the floor, which included a 9-13 (69.2%) effort from three-point land, and made all 17 of his free throw attempts.
His week began with 25-point, 7-assist outing in the team's 72-49 victory over the Mountain Hawks. The senior guard scored 19 of his points after halftime and made a career-best six three-point field goals on the night.
Benigni followed that performance with 27 points and 3 assists during an 81-63 win over the Black Knights in the annual Star Game. He was 3-4 from three-point land, 6-12 from the field overall and 12-12 from the charity stripe.
Navy will close the regular season with games Wednesday at Loyola and Saturday at home against Colgate.
