BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Navy swimming and diving teams combined to win five major awards following the conclusion of the Patriot League Championship held this weekend in Lejeune Hall.
Finn Gelbach was named the men's diver of the meet,
Corinne Warriner and
Chase Maier won the rookie-of-the-year awards,
Bill Roberts was named the men's swimming coach of the year and
Tim Fisher received the Joe Suriano Men's Diving Coach-of-the-Year accolade.
All of the major awards were voted on by the league's head coaches following the conclusion of the championship.
The Navy women's team won its 14th title in a row and the men's team won for the 21st time in its 22 years of competing at the meet.
Gelbach was named the league's diver of the year for the second time (2024) in his three years of competing at the meet. He won both boards last week with scores in the finals of 364.95 on the three meter and 386.10 on the one meter. Gelbach won the former event by 23 points and the latter by just under 50 points. He has posted four wins and two second-place finishes in his six career events at the championship.
Warriner scored 70 individual event points at the meet to tie for 16th place in the field of competitors. She placed third in both breaststroke events and 11th in the 200 individual medley at her first league meet.
Maier's efforts at the meet were capped by his winning the 1650 freestyle on Saturday by nearly 16 seconds with a time of 14:54.68. The clocking earned him an automatic berth into the event at the NCAA Championship as it was under the national standard of 15:06.60 for conference champions. Maier also placed third in the 500 free and sixth in the 200 individual medley as he tied for eighth place with 83 individual event points.
Roberts earned his first coach-of-the-year award since the 2020 championship and the 12th in his 22 years at Navy. The Mids won 12 of the 18 swimming events and, including diving, amassed 1,792 points to win the meet by 582 points. Additionally, five swimmers earned automatic qualification (in six events) for the NCAA Championship and four relay teams met the NCAA's provisional qualification standard.
Fisher has now totaled four coach-of-the-year awards in his three seasons as he is a three-time recipient of the men's award, which is named after the former Navy diving coach, and was the 2025 honoree for the women's coach-of-the-year accolade. In addition to Gelbach's two wins last week, Navy's
Luke Ogren earned the silver medal in the one-meter event and teammate
Anthony Sciulli placed second on three meter and fourth on one meter. Also, Navy accounted for four of the eight championship final qualifiers on both boards in this year's women's meet.
