Navy Women Earn Third-Place Finish at Patriot League Indoor Championship

BOSTON, Mass. – Zoie Tesi delivered a breakout performance, winning the high jump and placing second in the triple jump to lead the Navy women's track and field team to a third-place finish Sunday afternoon at the Patriot League Indoor Championship at the Track and Tennis Center.

Boston University repeated as the indoor champion with 188 points, while Army edged Navy for second with 155 points. The Midshipmen totaled 150 points.

"The league has gotten very tough in the last few years," Navy Director of Track and Field Jamie Cook said. "You've got to focus on the positives sometimes and that's what we told the team. Even though we didn't win, there were some awesome performances."

"The star of our team was Zoie Tesi," Cook added. "Winning the high jump then placing second in the triple jump as a sophomore is very encouraging for the future."

Field events
Tesi won her first indoor league championship in the high jump, clearing 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches) to tie the fourth-best mark in school history. Earlier in the day, she placed second in the triple jump with a career-best 12.42 meters (40-9), the second-best mark in Navy history.

Farrah Eike and Sarah Spahr each cleared 1.63 meters (5-04.25) in the high jump, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively, with Eike earning the placement advantage based on fewer attempts.

Sophia Notaro placed eighth in the triple jump at 11.45 meters (37-06.75).

In the throws, Gretchen Hurt recorded a personal-best mark of 13.89 meters (45-7) in the shot put, moving into fifth place on her final attempt.

Track events
Sophia Richter led Navy's individual efforts on the track, winning her second indoor league title in the 400 meters. She clocked 54.27, the second-fastest time in school history, to edge Bucknell's Alex Lea (54.35). Richter added a second medal in the 200 meters, tying the school record in 24.18 to finish third.

Julienne Warner placed seventh in 25.08, and Jia Anderson took eighth in 25.69 in the 200-meter final.

The distance medley relay team of Reilly Nussbaum, Julia Blake, Lexi Ensor and Kate Leddy delivered one of the meet's top performances, earning second place with a school-record time of 11:34.23. The mark broke the previous record of 11:38.06 set in 2023.

Caroline Rey earned a bronze medal in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.62. Warner finished fourth in a season-best 7.64, while Anderson placed eighth in 7.79.

"Caroline had a really good meet for someone who has not had a lot of experience in the big meets," Cook said.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Anderson finished second in 8.44, tying her season best and the fourth-fastest time in program history. Rey added a sixth-place finish in 8.86, and Zoe Eastman-Grossel was seventh in 9.00.

Sophie Compton recorded a fifth-place finish in the mile (4:47.79). She later paced the Mids in the 3,000 meters, placing fifth in 9:40.79, while Susannah Heinz followed with a career-best 9:43.99 to earn seventh.

Mia-Claire Kezal recorded the seventh-fastest 800-meter time in school history, running 2:09.59 to finish fifth.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Anderson, Rey, Warner and Savannah Swanda closed the meet with a fourth-place finish in 3:47.04.
