ANNAPOLIS, Md. —  Coming off a stellar performance against Bucknell on Saturday, Navy long-stick midfielder Patrick Flaherty (So / Massapequa, N.Y.) has been named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. Flaherty was also selected as the Naval Academy Athletic Association Student-Athlete of the week.

Flaherty played a pivotal role in Navy holding Bucknell scoreless for 19 minutes between the second and fourth quarters, enabling the Mids to go on an 11-1 run and overcome a 4-goal deficit to win the game. The defense forced 18 of Bucknell's 22 turnovers, tying the program record for most caused turnovers in a game (18 vs. VMI / 2-12-2011). Flaherty was responsible for six of those 18 caused turnovers, a mark that is tied for the second-most caused turnovers in program history (one off the record) and the most since Matt Rees had six against Air Force on Feb. 6, 2016. Additionally, Flaherty picked up a career-high tying four ground balls and dealt out his third assist of the season.

Flaherty, who played offensive midfield his freshman year and the fall of his sophomore year before transitioning to long-stick midfield at the start of January, is the second Navy player to earn Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors this season, joining Tewaaraton Award nominee AJ Marsh (Jr / D / Reisterstown, Md.).

In addition to Flaherty, Boston University's Timothy Shannehan (offense) and Madden Murphy (faceoff), Lafayette's Joe Doherty (goalkeeper) and Loyola's Will Musgrove (rookie) received weekly Patriot League honors as their respective position.

The Midshipmen return to action this evening when it plays Jacksonville at Rock Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. Faceoff is set for 7:00 pm. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on Navysports.com(.)
