Tang Named Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Co-Player of the Year

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy sophomore Wenqing Tang (Villanova, Pa.) has been named the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference (MASC) Co-Player of the Year it was announced by league officials on Tuesday. This is the first time in program history that a Navy player has earned MASC Player of the Year honors.

The Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference is the first squash-specific collegiate athletic conference in the United States and was officially sanctioned by the College Squash Association Board of Directors in May of 2019. The conference includes Dickinson, Drexel, Franklin & Marshall, MIT, Navy and Virginia.

Tang, who shares the conference player-of-the-year award with Virginia's Juan Jose Torres, closed out an extraordinary season by posting a 27-2 record that included an undefeated mark of 27-0 in team competition. His only two losses were against the nation's elite at the CSA Individual Championship. He has won 32-consecutive matches in team competition dating back to his freshman year.

His 27 wins are tied as the second most in program history alongside Bill Kacergis (27-6 / 2012-13), Mitch Bottini (27-6 / 2012-13) and Allan Lutz (27-9 / 2008-09) and just one shy of the record held by Jeff Sawin who posted 28 wins in 2006-07 (28-4). Meanwhile, Tang is the only player in school history who has finished a season winning 90 percent or more of his matches with a minimum of 20 wins. He finished the 2025-26 campaign with a 93.1 winning percentage with the next-closest player winning 87.5 percent of his matches (Jeff Sawin, 28-4 / 2006-07).

Tang also eclipsed the 50-win milestone in just his second season. He stands 51-6 and is the second Navy player to reach 50 wins this season (Ramsay Killinger). He is the 41st player to reach 50 wins in program history.
