Chip Deegan wins 2026 Patriot League individual medalist honors

Navy’s Chip Deegan Headlines All-Patriot League Men’s Golf Team

BETHLEHEM, PA.  // Navy's Chip Deegan (Sr / Newport Beach, Calif.), who won individual medalist honors and helped lead Navy to the Patriot League Championship title on Sunday, has been named the Patriot League Player of the Year it was announced by the league office on Wednesday morning. Additionally, fourth-year head coach Jimmy Stobs and his assistant Jimmy Criscione were named the Patriot League Coaching Staff of the Year.

In addition to Deegan, fellow senior Jack Tarzy (Medford, N.J.) was named to the six-player All-Patriot League First Team which included Army's Tyson Sparks, Lehigh's Jack Roth and Loyola's Jackson Roman and Eli Spaulding. The seven-player second team was comprised of Bucknell's Jack Hartman, Colgate's Brayden Dock, Lafayette's Travis Robertson, Lehigh's Ryan Cronin and Loyola's Liam Moloney, Diego Neira and Gustavo Rangel.

Deegan has enjoyed a sensational senior season, turning in six top-10 performances, which includes five top-five finishes and the distinction of being a conference champion. He has seen action in 11 events this season and owns a team-low 71.78 stroke average over 32 rounds. Following his win at the Patriot League Championship, he is now ranked 333rd in the country.

In addition to his victory over the weekend, among his top performances of the season including second-place finishes at the Commander-In-Chief's Cup (72-75-78=225 / +15) and the Wildcat Invitational (72-75-70=217 / +4), a third-place showing at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate (66-75-68=209 / -4) and a fourth-place finish at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate (66-68-72=206 / -4).

Deegan is the ninth Navy player to be crowned the Patriot League Individual Champion and first since Charlie Musto won the title in 2018 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Pennsylvania. He is also the ninth Navy player to earn Patriot League Player of the Year recognition, but first by a vote of the league's coaches. 

Tarzy has also been outstanding this season, placing among the top 10 in five tournaments, including winning a remarkable four events between the fall and spring seasons. He is second on the team in stroke average with a 72.56 over 32 rounds.

After opening the season the prestigious Folds of Honor Collegiate, Tarzy went on to win three-consecutive tournaments - The Goat (66-71-68=205 / -8), the Commander-In-Chief's Cup (77-72-74=223 / +13) and the Nassau Intercollegiate (73-73-66=212 / +2). Meanwhile, in between the Commander-In-Chief's Cup and the Nassau Intercollegiate, Tarzy captained the Mids' win over Army in the annual Star Match played in Annapolis. He earned his first singles win in four appearances in the battle between the two rivals, while the win marked the school's 1,200th victory against Army in the all-time overall series.

Tarzy returned in the spring to win his fourth tournament of the season with a 5-under par 208 (68-68-72) at the Golden Horseshoe Open and followed up with an eighth-place finish at the Wildcat Invitational (74-72-77=223 / +10). He opened the Patriot League Championship with low round of the first round (71) and went on to place 18th (71-78-74=223 / +13). He is now ranked 373rd in the country.

Deegan and Tarzy combined for six Patriot League Player-of-the-Week citations in the 16 weeks the award was handed out, three in the fall and three in the spring.

Behind a remarkable final round performance, Stobs and Criscione led Navy to its first Patriot League crown since 2018 at the Saucon Valley Country Club. Placed among the top 3 in five tournaments this year, including winning the Patriot League Championship and the Commander-In-Chief's Cup. Additionally, Navy placed second at its home tournament, The Goat, and finished third at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate and the Wildcat Invitational.
