ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's track & field team stands third (41 pts) following the opening day of the 2026 Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Friday at Ingram Field. Army leads the team standings with 56 points, followed by Boston University with 55 points.

"We had a solid first day as we qualified a lot of athletes for tomorrow," director of track and field
Jamie Cook said. "We finished the day strong in the 4x800-meter relay, and I think it's going to be an exciting final day tomorrow."

Track Events
Jia Anderson led the Mids in the semifinals of the 100-meter hurdles, clocking the second-fastest time in program history at 13.58 to finish second.
Caroline Rey advanced to the finals with a personal-best time of 13.80 to finish fourth and
Bennett Pidro clocked 14.51 to edge out Loyola's Leanely Cruz (14.54) for the final qualification spot.

Anderson also led the squad in the 100-meter dash prelims, posting the sixth-fastest time in school history at 11.78 seconds to finish in second place. Rey also punched her ticket to the finals with a third-place time of 11.83 and
Julienne Warner rounded out the group in fourth at 11.91.

In the 1,500-meter race,
Sophie Compton and
Juliet Frum raced their way into the finals. Compton clocked the fourth-best time of the prelims at 4:26.75 and Frum put up her best time of the year in 4:28.18 to place 10th.

Sophia Richter (55.14) and
Savannah Swanda (55.84) each qualified for the 400-meter final, finishing third and fourth, respectively. Swanda's time was the fastest of her career.

The duo of
Sara McConnell and
Peighton Marrero qualified for the 400-meter hurdles finals after finishing fourth and sixth, respectively. McConnell clocked 1:01.80, while Marrero finished less than a second later with a career-best 1:02.23.

Richter and Anderson produced another impressive performance in the 200-meter prelims. Richter finished second in her heat and second overall at 23.98 seconds. The mark would have ranked as the fourth-fastest time in school history but did not qualify for the record book due to wind speed. Anderson won her heat to place third overall in 24.15, which stands as the sixth-best time in program history.

Navy capped the day with a strong finish in the 4x800-meter relay, where the squad of
Catalina Simon,
Reilly Nussbaum,
Julia Blake and
Mia-Claire Kezal ran the third-fastest time in school history to take home the bronze medal. Kezal made a hard push in the final 100 meters to challenge Boston but could not quite pass, as the Terriers secured second place in a photo finish (8:46.57).

Field Events
The Mids were well represented in the pole vault, led by
Gracie Emerick, who recorded a season-best and tied the third-best mark in school history of 3.98 meters (13-0.75). The mark tied with Laura Reigle of Lehigh, who earned the placement tiebreaker over Emerick by clearing the height in fewer attempts.
Elisa Ramos and
Sophia Hill tied for third at 3.88 meters (12-08.75) and
Olivia Baird rounded out the group with a season-best mark of 3.73 meters (12-02.75) to earn seventh.

Baird reached the podium for the first time in her career at the Patriot League Championship, securing third place in the javelin with a toss of 43.65 meters (143-2).
Grace Coughlin added a career-best throw of 41.33 meters (135-7) to finish sixth.

"Olivia [Baird] scoring in the pole vault and the javelin is something you don't hear about a lot, including getting third place and reaching the podium," Cook said.

Nalina Smith led the Midshipmen in the hammer throw with a fifth-place toss of 52.38 meters (171-10).

In the long jump finals, Pidro added to her busy day by placing eighth with a leap of 5.65 meters (18-06.50).

Heptathlon
Leading Navy in second place (2,978 pts) in the heptathlon through four events,
Sara McConnell won the high jump where she tied her personal-best mark of 1.66 meters (5-05.25).

Pidro finished the first day in third place with 2,838 points, a performance highlighted by a second-place finish in the heptathlon 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.73 seconds.
