ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's basketball program under the direction of seventh-year head coach
Tim Taylor is pleased to introduce a talented group of three freshmen, who will be joining the team for this upcoming 2026-27 season. The Class of 2030 consists of three recruited student-athletes from throughout the country. Over the next week, each recruit will be profiled beginning today with Kelsey Rhyne from Mooresville, North Carolina.
A dangerous shooter from distance, Rhyne concluded her career at Lake Norman High School as one of the area's most decorated players of all-time. A four-time North Carolina All-State selection, Rhyne tallied over 1,700 points and knocked down 280 three-pointers over four seasons of action for the Wildcats, while playing for head coach McKenzie Graham. Her point (1,742) and steal (321) totals are both school records, while her three-point mark ranks ninth best all-time in the state of North Carolina.
In addition to her quartet of All-State honors, she was the 2026 NCBCA District 11 and North Piedmont Conference Player of the Year. In all four years playing for Lake Norman, Rhyne earned All-Iredell County and All-North Piedmont Conference accolades.
A nominee for the McDonald's All-American program, Rhyne helped the Wildcats win the program's first-ever girls' basketball championship in 2025 as they were victorious in the NCHSAA Class 4A Championship. A winner throughout her time at Lake Norman, Rhyne and the Wildcats won four conference championships and appeared in three North Carolina State Final Fours.
Away from high school action, she suited up with the Southeast All Stars on the Adidas Travel Circuit. She was coached by Brandon Clay.
Rhyne joins the long line of family members, who have served in the military as both her parents, Kevin and Kate, were members of the United States Navy, while her brother currently is active duty in the Navy.
"We are thrilled to welcome Kelsey to our program," remarked Taylor. "She is an outstanding shooter with deep range, finishing third in three-point percentage on the Adidas Travel Circuit last summer with the Southeast All-Stars. Kelsey plays with tremendous confidence and flair, never shying away from big moments or big shots. In addition to her scoring ability, I am especially impressed by her court vision and passing skills. She also brings a winning pedigree from Lake Norman High School, where she helped lead her team to a North Carolina State Championship during her junior season."
