Navy Sprint Football to Face Army in Anthracite Bowl Saturday

The Navy sprint football team (2-0) travels to Pottsville, Pa., to face arch-rival Army in the 19th-Annual Anthracite Bowl at Blue Mountain High School at 12 Noon Saturday. This game will not count in the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) standings; the teams will meet in league play at the annual Star Game Nov. 9 in West Point, N.Y.
In last season?s Anthracite Bowl played in St. Clair, Pa., Army scored three-consecutive touchdowns in the first-three quarters of play and held on for a 21-7 victory over the Midshipmen. The Black Knights controlled much of the play, limiting the Mids to a 2-of-14 third-down conversion rate, while also holding the ball for 35:27. Navy?s Ricky Knowles (Jr./White Salmon, Wash.) rushed 21 times for a team-high 88 yards on the afternoon, while Ed Donahoo (Jr./Haleyville, Ala.) had five receptions for 63 yards.
This season, Navy is averaging 37.5 points per game, having defeated the junior varsity squads of both Delaware Valley College (Pa.), 38-0, and Frostburg State (Md.), 37-22. Quarterback Chris Ashinhurst (So./Stafford, Va.) has been impressive in his first-two collegiate starts, having accounted for seven of the Mids? 10 touchdowns (five passing, two rushing) and totalling 368 yards of total offense. Ashinhurst?s classmate, Chris Rush (Pittsburg, Texas), enters the Anthracite Bowl as Navy?s leading scorer (two receiving touchdowns, one rushing touchdown).
Defensively, lineman Matt Olson (Sr./Wheaton, Ill.) has made a team-high 12 tackles, including three for a loss. Cornerback Jamie Glines (So./Modesto, Calif.) has been one of Navy?s best ball-hawking defenders thus far, as he has eight tackles, one fumble recovery, one interception and four pass break-ups to his credit.
In its opening outing Sept. 30, Army shut out the junior varsity squad of Marist College, 43-0. Sophomore quarterback George Feagins garnered CSFL Offensive Player-of-the-Week accolades this week after rushing for a team-high 72 yards and two touchdowns, while passing for 75 yards and a touchdown, in just over one half of work against Marist.
