Annapolis, Md. - Navy senior defensive end Dane Brown (Columbia, Md.) was named the Collegiate Sprint Football League's Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It marks the second time this season Brown has been honored with the award.
Brown earned the selection after recording eight tackles and three sacks for minus-14 yards in Navy's 27-10 win over Army, which capped an undefeated season (6-0 overall, 4-0 CSFL) and clinched the program's 30th CSFL championship overall and 23rd outright. The 30 titles ties Army for the most in league history, while the 23 outright titles are the most in the CSFL.
Brown, who is a strong candidate for the league's most valuable player award, finished the 2004 season with 32 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss for minus-52 yards, seven sacks for minus-29 yards and a blocked kick. He was a First-Team All-CSFL selection in 2002 and '03.
