ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy sophomore Dante Marshall (Hermitage, Pa.) qualified for the IC4A Championship with a first-place effort in the triple jump as the Midshipmen recorded four first-place finishes in the Navy Invitational on Friday night at Halsey Field House. In addition, four Navy members qualified for the IC4A Championship in Friday's season-opening, non-team scoring meet.
Each of Navy's first-place marks came in the field events, yielding three IC4A Championship qualifiers.
Marshall recorded a mark of 47'3-1/4" (14.41 meters) in surpassing the 46'11" (14.30 meters) qualifying standard for the IC4A Championship in March and placing first in the triple jump event on Friday.
Sophomore Bo Fisher (Longview, Wash.) also qualified for the IC4A Championship with a first-place showing of 15'9" (4.80 meters) in the pole vault. Fisher's effort tied his indoor career-mark, which he last performed at the 2005 Patriot League Championship.
Fellow sophomore Darryl Hunter (Des Moines, Iowa) joined Marshall and Fisher as IC4A qualifiers and first-place performers with his 52'-effort (15.85 meters) in the shot put.
Senior Serge Bermudez (Houston, Texas) rounded out the Mids' first-place marks with a 48'2-1/4" (14.69 meters) toss in the 35-lb. weight throw.
Capping Navy's qualifiers for the IC4A Championship during the season-opening meet was sophomore Paul Harris (Woodbury, Minn.). Harris completed the 800-meter run in 1:54.47 to place second on Friday.
The Midshipmen return to action on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, with a dual-meet at Princeton. The meet is slated to get underway at 12 p.m. Last season, Navy dropped a 98.5-81.5 decision to Princeton in Annapolis.
