Charlotte Hill Qualifies for Singlehanded Nationals

Oct. 5, 2006

This past weekend, 28 women from around the Mid Atlantic conference came to the Robert Crown Center in hopes of qualifying for Singlehanded Nationals. The Top five women would move on to Nationals at Roger Williams University in R.I. Charlotte Hill sailed a very consistent regatta by staying in the top ten in all but one race on Sunday. Hill finished second overall with a commanding 17-point lead over third. Three other midshipmen sailed for the qualifier with Alaina Bussell showing the future of Navy Women's Sailing by finishing just 10 points out of qualifying.

The rest of the IC team competed at the TS Stern Sloop Regatta at the College of Charleston, placing fifth and at a JV regatta at Hobart College. This weekend Navy sailing has two big events here at the Robert Crown Center; the first is the men's qualifier for singlehanded nationals, where Martin Sterling will fight for Navy's Nationals bid. The second event is the Navy Fall Women's where women from all over the country will come to Annapolis. This will be the first time this season that No. 1-ranked Stanford will face No. 2-ranked Navy.
