AMES, Iowa -- Led by an eighth-place finish by the Distance Medley Relay, the Navy men's track and field team posted seven top-20 finishes at the Iowa State Classic, which wrapped up Saturday night.
The Distance Medley Relay ran a 10:02.88 time for an eighth-place finish, finishing behind such national powers as Alabama, Minnesota and Kentucky. Navy's other relay entrant, the 4x400-meter relay finished 15th with a season-best clocking of 3:13.94, just 3.54 seconds shy of the NCAA Provisional qualifying mark. UCLA won with a 3:06.48 clocking.
Navy's top individual finishes came from sophomore Benjamin Kozy (Houston, Texas) in the one-mile run and sophomore Dante Marshall (Hermitage, Pa.). Kozy finished 13th with a time of 4:09.25, knocking over four seconds off his previous season-best time. Marshall also placed 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 48-05.25 feet.
The Mids' other top-20 performances came from Cole Herron (Sanger, Calif.) and Stephen White (Marietta, Ga.) in the high jump both with heights of 6-04.25. Kelly Stephens (Houston, Texas) rounded out Navy's top-20 finishes with a 17th-place finish in the pole vault and a height of 15-05.
