BOSTON - The all-sophomore distance medley relay of Craig Meekins (Baldwin, N.Y.), William Ricks (Sussex, Va.), Paul Harris (Woodbury, Minn.) and Ben Kozy (Houston, Texas) teamed up to win the events as the Navy men's track and field team finished ninth out of 51 scoring schools with 25.5 points on Sunday at Boston University.
Penn State won the IC4A Championship with a team score of 71 points, followed by Cornell in second with 55 points and Rutgers' 54 points in third place.
The group of sophomores recorded a season-best time of 9:53.87 to finish .08 second ahead of Yale's relay unit. The Midshipmen came into Sunday's action with the fifth-best time during the prelims, a 9:58.25 clocking. The prelims and finals efforts marked the only time that Navy finished under 10 minutes during the indoor season.
In addition to his efforts in the distance medley relay, Harris placed second in the 500-meter run. The sophomore eclipsed his previous career-record time in which he set during the prelims yesterday with a 1:02.10 on Sunday. Harris crossed the finish line first on Saturday with a clocking of 1:02.39.
Ricks finished eighth in the 400-meter run with a 48.08-second effort during the finals. Yesterday, Ricks registered a career-best time of 48.06 seconds to rank 10th.
Sophomore Dante Marshall (Hermitage, Pa.) also secured a top-five finish on Sunday. Marshall soared 48'3-1/4" (14.71 meters) in the triple jump to place fifth among all competitors.
Junior Stephen White (Marietta, Ga.) cleared 6'7" (2.01 meters) in the high jump to finish sixth, while sophomore Darryl Hunter (Des Moines, Iowa) came in 14th with a throw of 51'4-1/4" (15.65 meters) in the shot put.
Navy begins its outdoor track and field season on Saturday, March 18, at the Point Loma Invitational in Point Loma, Calif.
