ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy men's track and field sophomore Darryl Hunter (Des Moines, Iowa) qualified for the IC4A Championship in two events as the Midshipmen defeated five schools in their final home meet of the outdoor season at Ingram Field on Saturday. Navy tallied 216 points on the afternoon to improve its record to 8-0 on the year.
Penn finished in second with 128 points, followed by Rutgers' 117 points, Princeton's 89 points, Adelphi's 20 points and Colgate's 15 points.
Hunter won the discus throw with an IC4A qualifying, career-best toss of 162'11" (49.65 meters) to claim first-place honors on Saturday. The mark was more than eight feet longer than his previous personal record he set last year against Army. Earlier in the day, Hunter surpassed the IC4A distance in shot put with a second-place throw of 51'9" (15.77 meters).
Four other Midshipmen recorded IC4A qualifying efforts in Saturday's victories over five teams. Sophomore Paul Harris (Woodbury, Minn.) paced the competition with a time of 1:51.69, sophomore Bo Lawson (Fredon, N.J.) uncorked a toss of 192'1" (58.56 meters) to place third overall, sophomore Kraegen Bramer (Auburn, Calif.) placed second in the pole vault with a clearance of 15'7" (4.75 meters) and sophomore William Ricks (Sussex, Va.) was third to cross the finish line with a time of 48.14 seconds.
Sophomore Dante Marshall (Hermitage, Pa.) recorded first-place marks both the long and triple jumps. Marshall bested his previous career-best mark with a 22'10-1/2" (6.97 meters) then out-distanced the competition with a 46'8-1/4" (14.23 meters) effort in the triple jump.
In addition to Marshall, three more Midshipmen claimed first-place during Saturday's meet. Junior Michael Niemi (Duluth, Minn.) completed the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:16.54, senior Ty Rose (Germantown, Tenn.) ran the 5,000 meters in 14:57.56 and junior Stephen White (Marietta, Ga.) surpassed 6'6-1/4" (1.99 meters) in the high jump.
Navy's 4x400-meter relay unit also pulled down a first-place time of 3:17.70.
Navy heads on the road to compete in the Quaker Invitational next Saturday in Philadelphia.
