BATON ROUGE, La. - Navy men's track and field sophomores Dante Marshall (Hermitage, Pa.) and Paul Harris (Woodbury, Minn.) each won an event as the Midshipmen competed at the non-team scoring LSU Alumni Gold at Bernie Moore Track Stadium on Saturday. As a whole, Navy recorded seven top-ten performances on the afternoon.
One week after being named the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week, Marshall smashed his career record and qualified for the NCAA Regional with a 50' (15.24 meters) mark in the triple jump. Marshall's effort was nearly a foot longer than his previous career-best distance.
Harris won the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 1:51.10 on Saturday. The sophomore has won the event four times this year and was only 1.25 seconds off his career-fastest time at last year's IC4A Championship.
Joining Harris in the top-ten across the finish line in the 800-meter run was sophomore Craig Meekins (Baldwin, N.Y.). Meekins placed sixth with a time of 1:52.53.
Navy's 4x400-meter relay unit of senior Jamar Green (Pineville, La.), sophomore William Ricks (Sussex, Va.), junior Cameron Lindsay (Kernersville, N.C.) and Harris pieced together a season-best showing of 3:15.20 to finish seventh overall.
The Midshipmen also received two top-ten efforts in the high jump. Junior Cole Herron (Sanger, Calif.) surpassed 6'7-1/2" (2.02 meters) to place sixth, while classmate Stephen White (Marietta, Ga.) landed in 10th with a clearance of 6'5-1/2" (1.97 meters).
Navy's other top-ten showing came in the shot put, as sophomore Darryl Hunter (Des Moines, Iowa) uncorked a throw of 51'1-3/4" (15.59 meters) to finish in 10th place.
In addition, sophomore Bo Lawson (Fredon, N.J.) qualified for the IC4A Championship in the javelin throw, recording an 11th-place distance of 192'1" (58.54 meters) on Saturday.
Navy returns to action with the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on April 27-29.
