ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Fresh off a career-high-tying two-assist effort in Navy's overtime victory over Holy Cross on Sunday, senior Carey Young (Virginia Beach, Va.) has been recognized as the Patriot League BRINE Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Young, who previously received weekly league kudos on Sept. 29, has now collected the honor three times in her career. She is one of three Navy defenders and six different Mids to be recognized this season - a group that has garnered a league-best 11 awards.

Young and junior teammate Shelly Moeller (Milford, Ohio), who earned defensive player honors in each of the last three weeks, have now combined to account for each of the league's last-five defensive certificates. Additionally, a Navy player has now received one of the four weekly women's soccer honors in nine of 10 weeks this season.

Young set up a pair of first-half goals for the Mids in Sunday's 3-2 double-overtime win in Worcester, Mass. Her two assists tied a collegiate-best total set earlier this season against Lafayette on Oct. 10.

A consistent presence on the defensive end where she has started all 19 games this season; Young is one of several Mids enjoying a career year on the offensive side of the ball. This fall, she has already established new career-best totals in points (9) and assists (5), while also tying her top goal output (2).

On Friday night against archrival Army, the Virginia native helped Navy pitch its league-best 11th shutout in a scoreless draw contested in West Point.

Navy, unbeaten in its last 10 games (8-0-2), heads to Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday (5 p.m.) to face Colgate with a golden chance to stake claim to the program's seventh Patriot League regular season title.

The Mids are tied with Army for first place with identical 4-0-2 marks, but Navy holds the tiebreaker edge with a three-goal lead in scoring differential in league contests (Navy: 10-2, +8; Army 5-0, +5).
