GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Navy men's track team produced a pair of season-best performances to highlight the action on the first day of competition Friday at the 65th-annual Florida Relays at the Percy Beard Track Facility in Gainesville.

The Florida Relays is one of country's most prestigious meets, drawing top track and field talent from both the collegiate and professional ranks.

Sophomore David Ash (Williamston, Mich.) ran a personal-record and team-season best time of 1:53.64 in the 800-meter run. Ash placed 21st amongst 55 competitors in the event, topping his previous fastest 800m effort of 1:54.04.

Navy's freshman sprinter Alex Jackson (Elmhurst, Ill.) also added a PR and team-best clocking in the 400-meter dash in 49.64.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the Mids produced sixth-, seventh- and eighth-place finishes, led by sophomore Robert Alvarado's (San Francisco, Calif.) 9:36.85 effort.

Navy resumes competition at the Florida Relays tomorrow morning beginning at 11:30 am with the javelin throw. A separate group of Midshipmen will also be competing on Saturday in Philadelphia at the Penn Invite.
