GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Navy men's track & field season came to a close on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA East Regional Championships as junior hammerthrower Mark Van Orden (Morris Plains, N.J) failed to record a distance in the event, fouling on each of his first three tosses.
Van Orden came into the meet ranked 11th in the East region and 40th overall nationally in the hammer throw, thanks to a 200-foot, five-inch toss (61.08m) delivered back on March 28.
Virginia Tech freshman Marcel Lomnicky, the third-ranked thrower in the nation coming into the weekend, won the event with a heave of 232-05 (70.84m).
