NSCAA/Hendrickcars.com Mid-Atlantic Rankings

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy's freshman forward Paloma Perez has been named the Patriot League/BRINE Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today. Perez helped Navy (8-5-1, 1-0-0 PL) to a 2-0-0 weekend and scored two goals with two assists for six points.

Perez scored a second-half insurance goal at Colgate to give the Mids a 2-0 win over the defending league champions in both teams' season opener.

Perez followed that effort with a four-point day in a 6-0 win over Delaware State on Sunday. Perez scored the team's sixth goal and assisted on the fourth and fifth goals of the game.

The speedy newcomer is now tied for the team lead with five goals on the year and has played in just eight games (out of 14). She is also just the sixth freshman in the storied history of Navy women's soccer to be named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week.

Navy has also climbed back into the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Hendrickscars.com Mid-Atlantic Region Poll. Navy was receiving votes in the poll last week, but their two wins vaulted them back into the rankings. The Mids are currently ranked No. 9. Earlier this season on Aug. 30, Navy was ranked No. 10.

Navy has fared well against other teams currently ranked in the region, holding a 2-1 record, having defeated George Mason (Tied-10) and Penn (Tied-10) and losing to James Madison (No. 4).

Army (No. 7) is the only other Patriot League team currently ranked.

The NSCAA is sure to be pleased with both Army and Navy appearing in the rankings, as the coaches association is teaming up with the Fox Soccer Channel to nationally broadcast the Army-Navy game on Friday night from West Point, N.Y. The game will be televised on a four-hour tape delay at 11 pm.
