• Charleston Shootout Final Results
HOLLYWOOD, S.C. - The Navy golf team finished play at the Charleston Shootout on Tuesday in 15th place with a 66-over par 930 for the tournament. Peter Reilly led Navy's effort as he finished just outside the top 10 with a three-over par 219, which put him in a tie for 12th place.
"I was glad to see our third-round score was lower today," said Navy head coach Pat Owen. "I was proud of our effort, but we had some early-season rustiness that we'll work on in practice over the next few weeks."
Baylor won the tournament with an eight-under par 856.
Entering the final round of play, Reilly stood in a five-way tie for 14th place after shooting a 72 and 73 on Monday. He followed up on Tuesday with a two-over par 74, which bumped him up to a four-way tie for 12th place.
"I was very pleased with Peter's play," Owen said. "He played very well throughout the tournament and it was a great way to start the spring campaign."
Charleston Southern's Jacabo Pastor claimed the individual title as he shot a 69 on Tuesday and finished the tournament with a seven-under par 290.
After shooting a 74 and 75 on day one, captain Ben Hayes fired a 77 on Tuesday, which gave him a 10-over par 226 and bumped him back to a tie for 38th place.
Junior Tim Shield shaved seven strokes off his second-round 85 on Monday, as he shot a 78 in today's final round, giving him a 25-over par 241.
Andrew Haines turned in an 81 on Tuesday, which gave him a 32-over par 248 for the tournament. David Hall finished the Shootout 35-over par.
This week's tournament was the first of the spring for the Midshipmen. Navy will return to action March 26-27 when they visit the Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville for the Fireline Towson Invitational.
"We've established a baseline and now we know what we have to work on from here," said Owen.
