Annapolis, Md. - The Navy women's soccer team will open its five-week spring schedule this weekend when it hosts Georgetown on Friday night at 7 pm at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Admission is free for all home spring soccer games.
"Our spring schedule gives us the opportunity to focus on improving our team and moving forward toward the 2011 season," said 18th-year head coach Carin Gabarra. "We plan on using this time to build stronger mentalities and develop our team in a number of ways, including improving as individual players."
The Mids will open the spring schedule with a tough Georgetown team that advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2010 and finished the season ranked No. 18.
The Mids will also host a 7-on-7 tournament on April 2 on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy. Action will begin at 9:00 am and will continue all day until the championship game at 4:30 pm. The 10-team field includes Towson, George Washington and UMBC.
Navy will compete at the Kicks Against Breast Cancer tournament on April 9 in Germantown, Md. Navy will compete against Stony Brook and Patriot League-foe American.
The Mids will also compete at the B+ Foundation Tournament on April 16 in New Castle, Del., taking on Villanova and Princeton, the Ivy League runner-up.
Navy's spring schedule concludes with a game at Mount St. Mary's on 7 pm. Navy defeated the Mount, 1-0, last season.
The women's soccer team posted a 9-8-3 record in 2010, its 17th straight winning season.
