BETHLEHAM, Pa. - The Navy men's track and field team won six events and was the runner-up in five while placing third as a team at the 2013 Patriot League Outdoor Championship at Lehigh's Goodman Campus.
Bucknell won both the men's and women's team titles this weekend. On the men's side Bucknell totaled 184 points, Army was second at 170 and Navy was third at 159.
"We got ourselves behind with some of the events on Friday but the guys did respond and put forth some good efforts today," head coach Stephen Cooksey said. "We made a good turnaround and the difference between the first day and today was incredible, but we just had a few too many mishaps that kept us out of it."
Freshman Jay Stell was named the Patriot League Men's Championship Rookie of the Meet after winning the javelin on Friday with a mark of 216-6 (65.98m). Stell is ranked 19th in the javelin on the NCAA's East Region performance list.
"Jay has been consistent all season long for us," said Cooksey. "There is a lot of pressure for your first time out there and he had a big toss yesterday. He has done a great job this season and it was nice to see him win that award."
Junior Zack Duncavage broke his own school record and established a new Patriot League Championship meet record in winning the discus at 192-8 (58.74m). Junior Kyle Fortney was fifth at 167-7 (51.09m). Both were over the IC4A standard.
Duncavage broke his own previous school record of 185-2 (56.44m), which he set at the Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet in April.
