PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior thrower Zack Duncavage competed in three different events and recorded Navy men's track and field's highest finish of fourth place in the discus at the 120th Penn Relays Saturday at Franklin Field.
"Our athletes competed well at the Penn Relays," head coach Stephen Cooksey said. "We will now look ahead to next weekend's Patriot League Championships."
Duncavage's mark of 191-2 (58.27m) in the discus was his third farthest throw of his career and the farthest for Patriot Leaguers this season. He also finished 15th in the shot put with a mark of 48-2 (14.68m).
Sophomore Jay Stell placed eight in the javelin throw championship with a mark of 213-2 (64.99m). Freshman Michael Brunoforte finished seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 15-7 (4.75m).
Buffone and Kyle Fortney recorded IC4A-qualifying performances in the hammer throw. Buffone threw a 183-3 (55.86m) and Fortney tallied a mark of 182-3 (55.55m).
In the shot put, Griffie Loy, Thomas Swanson and Tom Buffone placed 11th, 12th and 16th, respectively. Loy paced the Mids with a throw of 51-8.25.
Junior Zach Hebda, in his first time competing in the 10,000m, finished eighth with a time of 30:01.43.
Navy's 4x400m relay team of Bret Bogaard, Jeremy Cadiente, Austin Batiste and Nick Deterding placed sixth with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:12.73. The 4x100m relay squad of Bogaard, Rico Goldstone, Rex Willis and Isaac Losee finished seventh, crossing the tape at 42.04.
Navy will host the 2014 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 2 to May 3 at Ingram Field.
