ANNAPOLIS, Md. - It was a busy weekend for the Navy Intercollegiate Sailing Team, with four different away regattas along the East Coast. The closest event to home was also the most consequential, with the Central Fall Qualifier being held at Washington College.

Even though there were only 14 teams in attendance, the stakes were high, as the top four qualify to compete in our fall conference coed championship, the War Memorial, which will be held at SUNY Maritime College on November 1-2. A young Navy team fought closely with the host Shoremen throughout the day on Saturday, ending up just one point behind in second overall. While the team was prepared to make a Sunday charge, there was no wind that day and the results from day one stood. Jimmy Madigan and Amelia Winn finished second in A division, while Gary Prieto and Molly Hanson were second in B.

The major event in Navy's conference was the Nevins Trophy at the US Merchant Marine Academy. This was another event where most of the racing was held on Saturday due to lack of wind Sunday and the 20 team fleet boasted many of the top teams in the country. Navy finished seventh overall. Michael Popp, Alex Asuncion and Connor Hendi finished fifth in A division, Patrick Snow, Megan Hough and Will Hawley were seventh in B, and Phil Youngberg was ninth in C.

Across the Long Island Sound from where we were sailing at KP, another group of Midshipmen was competing in the NY Maritime Fall Open. Navy finished fifth int he 20 team event. Peter Hogan and Sahara Graft finished third in A division while Spencer Nora and Rosie Silverstein were 10th in B.

Making the long trip to Boston, Navy also competed in the Hatch Brown Trophy at MIT. Navy Finished 13th in the 18 team regatta, despite finishing 11th in all three divisions. Mary Hall and Emma Ferris sailed in A, Michael Madigan and Michelle Katz were in B and Addison Hackstaff and Molly Robertson sailed C.
