Men' Track and Field Places Seventh at IC4A Championship

March 8, 2015

BOSTON - Five Navy men's track athletes and one relay team earned All-East honors to highlight a strong effort on the final day of the 2015 IC4A Indoor Championship at Boston University on Sunday afternoon.

Navy finished seventh overall after earning 33.25 points on the weekend. It is the eighth time that Navy has finished among the top-10 schools at the IC4A Championship during head coach Stephen Cooksey's tenure (which began in 1988-89).

"We had some good performances overall and now looking ahead to the outdoor season," Navy head coach Stephen Cooksey said. "The athletes that competed this weekend continued to perform well and hopefully that will translate when we begin our second half of the season."

Monmouth led all teams with 58 points, while Georgetown (51 points), Albany (44 points), Bucknell (41 points), Connecticut (37 points) and Rhode Island (36 points) rounded out the top six.

Jiles Maness (Jr., Winston Salem, N.C.), Austin Batiste (Jr., Long Beach, Calif.), Mark Vetere (Sr., Andover, Mass.) and Devin Enslen (Fr., ) each finished within the top-eight in their respective events to claim All-East honors. Together with Tyler Russell's eighth-place high jump finish on Saturday, Navy had five individual athletes garner All-East honors over the course of the two-day regional championship meet.

Maness and Batiste earned the Midshipmen's top individual finishes on the weekend, with second-place showings in the pole vault and the 400m dash. Batiste, who picked up his second career All-East certificate, recorded a time of 47.01, earning eight team points for Navy. Maness also took home All-East laurels for the second-straight year with a mark of 16ft-10.75in (5.15m) in the pole vault.

Vetere earned a fourth-place finish in the pole vault to garner All-East honors with a mark of 16ft-6.75in (5.05m). Enslen, who placed second in the preliminaries on Saturday in the 200m dash, finished fourth in the finals with a time of 21.60. Both Vetere and Enslen combined for 10 team points with fourth-place finishes.

Navy's distance medley relay squad of sophomore Ryan McCoy, junior Nicholas Palermo, senior Joshua Kingsland and sophomore Malcolm White garnered sixth place with a time of 9.52.62 for three team points and All-East laurels.

Teammates Michael Brunoforte and Tom Swanson just missed top-eight finishes, placing ninth in the pole vault and shot put. Brunoforte recorded a mark of 15ft-9in (4.80m) in the pole vault and Swanson threw 52ft-2in (15.90in) in the shot put.

The Mids will return to action on Saturday, March 14 when they kick off the outdoor slate with their annual trip to San Diego for the UC-San Diego Challenge.
