PRINCETON, N.J. --  The Navy men's track and field team recorded 40 points to finish third out of 47 teams at the 2015 IC4A Outdoor Championship at William Weaver Track and Field Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey. Eight individual Navy athletes recorded All-East performances.
"I was proud to see the athletes who competed this weekend record strong performances in their respective events," Navy head coach Stephen Cooksey said. "We had some of our younger athletes tally great performances at this meet and we hope to see them build on these marks."
Junior Jay Stell (Carlsbad, N.M.) led Navy, recording his first career individual title at the IC4As in the javelin. Stell threw a season-best mark of 231ft-3in (70.50) for first-place at the meet, which currently ranks him 12th overall in the NCAA East Region.
Freshmen Anthony Richards (Skillman, N.J.) and Anthony White (Longmeadow, Mass.) both recorded their first career All-East honors, finishing sixth and seventh in the javelin, respectively, with marks of 203ft-2in (61.92m) and 202ft-6in (61.72m). In the hammer throw, senior captain Tom Buffone (Freehold, N.J.) finished second in the with a mark of 201ft-5in (61.40m). Junior William Grammer placed eight with a throw of 190ft-1in (57.93m).
Seniors Zach Hebda (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Brian De La Mora (Davis, Calif.) recorded top-eight finishes in distance events. Hebda placed second in the 10,000m run with a career-best time of 29:55.99. De La Mora ran a time of 14:15.73 in the 5,000m run, crossing the tape for sixth place.
Junior Jordan Sartor-Francis garnered All-East honors in the 100m dash. Sartor-Francis began with a fourth-place finish in the preliminary run with a time of 10.76 then shaved off 0.05 seconds for fourth place in the semifinal race. The junior sprinter capped off the event with his best time of 10.67 for fourth. Sartor-Francis also ran in the 200m dash, placing fifth in the preliminary run with a time of 21.63.
Junior Austin Batiste (Long Beach, Calif.) and freshman John Campbell (Amarillo, Texas) just missed earning All-East honors, finishing ninth in their respective events. Batiste placed ninth in the 400m dash with a time of 47.71. Campbell recorded a ninth-place throw of 164ft-0in (49.99m) in the discus.
LIU-Brooklyn grabbed the 2015 IC4A Championship title, tallying 60 points. The University at Albany edged Navy for second place by 1.5 points as Albany finished with 41.50 and Navy recorded 40 team points to round out the top three.
Navy will next compete in the NCAA's East Region Championship in Jacksonville, Florida from May 28-30. The NCAA will announce the meet's accepted entries later in the week.
