March 21, 2016 ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team competed in two regattas this past weekend. Navy placed seventh out of 16 teams at the Graham Hall Team Race and the Mids were 15th out of 18 teams at the St. Mary's Women's Regatta.
Navy hosted the nation's biggest collegiate team race regatta in the Graham Hall Team Race. This year's event boasted a very deep 16-team field on a cold weekend. Shifty and puffy winds added to the challenge on the water and all 160 races on the weekend were hard fought. Navy played through the initial round robin with a 8-7 record, placing the team in the middle six group for the final round.
The Midshipmen won all five races in this round to finish seventh overall with a record of 13-7. Michael Popp, Patrick Snow, Gary Prieto, Megan Hough, Aaron Hull, Molly Hanson and Peter Hogan raced for the team while Michael Madigan, Jimmy Madigan, Will Hawley and Tyler Fleig helped with the race committee.
Navy's other regatta of the weekend was the always-challenging St. Mary's Women's Regatta. Very shifty winds made consistency hard to come by and Navy wound up 15th overall out of 18 teams. Hannah Hughes and Mary Morocco came in 16th in A division while Molly Robertson and Michelle Katz were 14th in B.
