2016 Schedule

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy head men's soccer coach Dave Brandt has announced the program's 2016 fall competition schedule. The program will play a total of 18 games featuring nine Patriot League matches and nine non-conference contests.

Navy will open the season with two matches at the College of Charleston's annual Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic from August 26-28. Navy will face host College of Charleston (7-8-2, 4-3-1 CAA in 2015) on Friday, August 26. Charleston holds a slight lead in the all-time series against Navy, 2-1-2, and the teams last met in 1998 with Navy posting a 4-2 victory in Charleston.

Navy's second match of the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic will be against Furman (8-5-6, 6-2-3 Southern) on Sunday, August 28. Furman placed third in the Southern Conference last year and beat East Tennessee State in the conference championship game. Furman played even with South Carolina, 1-1, through 110 minutes in the NCAA First Round, but the Gamecocks advanced on a penalty kick shootout. Navy and Furman will be meeting for the first time.

Navy's 2016 home opener and the first of eight games at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility will be Sunday, Sept. 4 against Northern Illinois (7-7-1, 1-3-1 MAC). The two teams will be meeting for the first time.

Navy will play in its first of three games in a 15-day span in the Philadelphia area at Villanova (9-8-0, 4-5-0 Big East) on Thursday, Sept. 8. Navy leads the all-time series against Villanova, 2-0-1. The teams last met in 1996 with the two schools drawing, 0-0.

The Mids will then make the short trip to play at George Washington (10-8-0, 6-2-0 Atlantic 10) on Sunday, Sept. 11. The Colonials were the 2015 Atlantic 10 Regular Season Champions. The two teams will be meeting for the 27th time in series history and Navy leads the series, 12-10-4. The Colonials posted a 2-1 win over Navy in the last meeting in the series in 2014.

Navy will then play back-to-back games in the Philadelphia area. Navy will first play at Saint Joseph's (4-12-2, 2-5-1 Atlantic 10) on Saturday, Sept. 17. Navy leads the all-time series against Saint Joseph's, 7-0-0, and posted a 1-0 victory last fall.

The Army-Navy Cup V will be played at Talen Energy Stadium, the home of the Philadelphia Union, on Friday, Sept. 23. Navy leads the all-time series against Army West Point, 40-28-14. Army West Point (5-8-5, 3-3-3 PL) defeated Navy 2-1 in the Army-Navy Cup IV last season.

The Army-Navy Cup has averaged 7,643 fans in its first four years at Talen Energy Stadium with 10,168 fans attending the Army-Navy Cup III in 2014. The match will also be the 2016 Army-Navy Star Match and Navy's Patriot League season opener.

The Mids will face its third Atlantic 10 opponent of the season when they host Duquesne (6-10-2, 4-3-1) on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Navy beat Duquesne, 3-0, in the only other meeting in the series in 2000.

Navy will resume league play when traveling to Loyola (2-13-2, 0-8-1 PL) for a game on Saturday, Oct. 1. Navy beat Loyola in the Patriot League regular season last year, 1-0, to improve to 3-1-2 in the all-time series.

Navy will play at defending Patriot League Champion Lehigh (13-6-3, 5-3-2 PL) on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The Mountain Hawks were the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament but won the title before falling to Hofstra in the NCAA First Round, 2-1. Navy holds a 31-18-8 lead in the all-time series and posted a 3-1 win over the Mountain Hawks last year.

Navy's first of four league games at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility will be against Holy Cross (6-8-4, 3-4-1 PL) on Saturday, Oct. 8. Navy earned a 1-0 win against the Crusaders last season for its fourth straight win in the series, but Holy Cross still leads the all-time ledger, 14-12-2.

The Mids will welcome non-conference foe Longwood (9-8-1, 4-4-1 Big South) to Annapolis on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Longwood took a 2-1 win over Navy last season to improve to 4-3-0 in the all-time series.

Navy will host Bucknell (7-7-5, 3-3-2 PL) on Saturday, Oct. 15. Navy leads the series against Bucknell, 24-12-4. However, Bucknell beat Navy last year, 1-0, on an own goal.

The Mids will continue their local rivalry with UMBC (11-6-3, 3-2-2 America East) on Tuesday, Oct. 18 in Annapolis. Navy improved to 18-5-4 in the all-time series against the Retrievers after taking a 1-0 win in Baltimore last season. Navy and UMBC will be playing for the seventh straight year, which is Navy's longest active non-conference series streak.

Navy will play at 2015 Patriot League Regular Season Colgate (10-7-2, 7-3-0 PL) on Saturday, Oct. 22. Colgate took a 12-11-5 lead in the all-time series against Navy with its 1-0 win in the regular season last year.

Navy will host American (14-5-3, 5-2-2 PL) on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The Eagles advanced to Patriot League Tournament Championship last season. American's 3-0 win over Navy last season gave the Eagles an 11-10-7 lead in the all-time series.

Navy's final regular season home match will be against Lafayette (5-8-5, 2-6-1 PL) on Saturday, Oct. 29. Navy earned a 4-0 win over the Leopards last season to increase its all-time lead in the series to 20-16-4.

The Mids will close the regular season by playing at Boston University (12-6-2, 6-1-2 PL) on Friday, Nov. 4. The Terriers received an at-large bid to the 2015 NCAA Tournament and fell to UConn, 3-1, in the first round. Navy suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Boston U. in the season finale last year. Boston holds a 2-1-0 lead in the all-time series.

The six-team Patriot League Tournament will open with the quarterfinals at campus sites on Nov. 8. The semifinals and final will be hosted by the regular season champion from Nov. 11-13.

Navy (8-9-1, 4-5-0 PL) will return three former All-Patriot League performers for the 2016 season in Sam Bascom, Daniel Camuti and Brock Dudley. The Mids will also return six starters and 10 letterwinners.
