PRINCETON, N.J. - The Navy men's track and field squad recorded 35 of its 37.50 team points on the final day of the IC4A Championship to place sixth out of 47 teams on Sunday at William Weaver Track and Field Stadium.
"We capped off a very talented meet with some very good finishes," Navy head coach Stephen Cooksey. "Our senior athletes were able to not only compete in their final IC4A Championship, but to finish on a good note."
Navy recorded six All-East performances, which included three from its seniors.
Senior distance runner Steve Schroeder (Monticello, Ill.) recorded back-to-back first-place finishes in the 1,500-meter this weekend. Following his first-place finish in Saturday's preliminary race, Schroeder took home the individual title and first All-East honor in the event with a time of 3:48.87.
Senior Sartor-Francis (Jonesboro, Ga.), who placed second in Saturday's 200-meter dash preliminary race, finished third overall in Sunday's finals with a time of 21.47. The senior sprinter garnered his second outdoor All-East honor in the event with the third-place finish.
For the fourth time in his career, senior Jay Stell (Carlsbad, N.M.) recorded an All-East performance in the javelin, placing second with a throw of 233ft-0in (71.01m). Stell's third-place throw was just 1ft-1in off his program-best throw of 234ft-1in (71.35m). Teammate Sean Richards also recorded his second-straight All-East performance in the event, recording a fifth-place throw of 202ft-8in (61.77m).
Freshman Kordell Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) shined in all three races of the 110-meter hurdles he competed in this weekend and capped it off with a fourth-place finish. Williams recorded his first All-East finish with a time of 14.37, which was .12 seconds better than his preliminary time and 0.02 seconds better than his semifinal run.
Junior Khaalif Wolfe (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) tallied Navy's final All-East performance in the triple jump, recording a mark of 48ft-3.5in (14.72m). Freshman Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.) placed 13th in the shot put with a mark of 50ft-6in (15.39m).
Morgan State took home the team title with 68 points. Cornell and LIU-Brooklyn followed closely behind with 57 and 55 points, respectively. Hampton (41), Princeton (38.33) and Navy (37.50) rounded out the top six.
Navy will next send its qualified athletes to the NCAA's East Regional Championship in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 26-28. Athletes must rank in the top 48 in their respective events to receive qualification. The performance deadline is Sunday night and the lists will be revealed later this week.
