ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's track and field team recorded a dozen IC4A qualifying times / marks in the first meet of the season as the Midshipmen hosted the annual Navy Indoor Invitational on Saturday at Wesley A. Brown Field House.

"I was impressed by their effort and their competitiveness," first-year Director of Track and Field Jamie Cook said of his team after the meet. "I think we had a bunch of PRs, and whenever you are doing that the first meet of the year, it is a good thing. Highlights to me were Cedric Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) in the long jump; Devin Enslen (Alamogordo, N.M.) and Demetrius Lanier (Palm Coast, Fla.) in the 200m; Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.) in the shot put; Ryan Herrera-Murphy (Bronx, N.Y.) in the pole vault; and Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas) -- a freshman -- in the hurdles and vault. John Finnegan (Spring, Texas) ran a good 400m. Things like that are good for this time of year."

The Mids recorded IC4A qualifying marks in the 60-meter dash (2x), 200m dash (2x), 400m dash, 60m hurdles (2x), pole vault (2x), long jump, and shot put (2x).

Enslen and Lanier finished 1-2 in the 200m dash, finishing within one-hundredth of a second of each other. Enslen, the indoor captain, notched an IC4A qualifying time of 21.51 to edge Lanier's qualifying time of 21.52.

Enslen joined Aaron Watson (Union City, Mich.) with a pair of qualifying times in the 60m dash. The duo each clocked a qualifying time of 6.96 in the prelims of the event to advance to the finals. In the finals, Enslen notched a team-best time of 6.89 to finish third, while Watson recorded another 6.96. Lanier was one one-hundredth of a second from registering a qualifying time, clocking a 6.99 in the finals.

In the 400m dash, Finnegan posted a qualifying time of 49.04 to finish in third in the event, while C. Williams recorded an IC4A qualifying distance of 7.24m (23-09.00) in the long jump to finish second.

The 60m hurdles saw Thompson and Kordell Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) clock times of 8.26 to advance to the finals. In the finals, the duo once again matched each other's time with both hurdlers clocking qualifying times of 8.18 in the event.

Navy dominated the pole vault, claiming the top eight spots and nine of the top 10 heights. The vault competition was led by Herrera-Murphy and Stefano Pineda (Hockessin, Del.) who finished first and second with IC4A heights of 4.95m (16-02.75) and 4.85m (15-11.00), respectively.

In the shot put, Brennan and John Campbell (Amarillo, Texas) finished 1-2 in the event with IC4A qualifying throws. Brennan won the event with a team-best distance of 16.80m (55-01.50), while Campbell registered a throw of 15.91m (52-02.50).

Navy will continue the indoor season on Saturday, Jan. 6, as the Mids welcome Princeton to Annapolis for a dual meet beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley A. Brown Field House.
