Mids Face George Mason in Midweek Bout

The Navy wrestling team (7-2, 1-1 EIWA) will look to bounce back from its loss to Old Dominion last week when it travels to Fairfax, Va. to battle George Mason (5-10, 2-4 EWL) on Wednesday evening. Navy Notebook
• Navy closed out the home portion of its dual schedule last Friday with a 23-10 loss to Old Dominion at Alumni Hall in Annapolis. The Monarchs won seven of the 10 bouts, including three one-point decisions, en route to securing its fifth win of the season while the Mids suffered just their second loss of the 2016-17 campaign.
• Navy has wins this season over Johns Hopkins (2), Delaware Valley (2), American, Maryland and Duke. In addition to the ODU loss, Navy's only other setback was against nationally-ranked Lehigh.
• Brant Leadbeter (125), Drew Daniels (165) and Jadaen Bernstein (174) won their respective matches against Old Dominion. Daniels upset 19th-ranked Seldon Wright, 5-3, marking his first collegiate victory over a ranked foe in eight tries. Meanwhile, Leadbeter's 14-6 major decision over Steven Simpsonwas his first dual win of the year.
• 141-pound freshman Jared Prince sat out the ODU match, however, he is expected to return to the mat on Wednesday evening. Ranked #13 in the country, he has put together a 19-6 record this season, including a 5-0 mark in dual action. He enters the George Mason match riding a six-match winning streak.
• Bernstein, a two-time NCAA qualifier, moved up to #15 at 174 pounds according to this week's InterMat rankings.
• Boasting a team-best 23-6 mark, Bernstein eclipsed the 20-win mark with his three-match sweep at the All-Academy Championship two weeks ago ... he has won at least 20 matches in each of his three seasons at the Academy and has amassed an 81-33 mark ... he stands 19-4 in dual action of his career, including 7-0 this season.
• Both Jared Prince and Steban Cervantes are on the verge of joining Bernstein in the 20-win club ... Prince and Cervantes own 19 wins this season.

A Look At George Mason
• George Mason, who is currently on a three-match losing skid, enters Wednesday's match against the Mids with a 5-10 record. The Patriots have wins over Bloomsburg (24-18), Davidson (30-6), Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (21-15), VMI (26-18) and Cleveland State (27-8). Their last three matches have been losses to Clarion (24-10), Edinboro (32-7) and Rider (24-18). The Patriots have been off since their Jan. 29 match against Rider
• Anchoring the Patriots squad is redshirt senior Sahid Kargbo, who has amassed a 22-2 mark at 149 pounds and is tied for #21 on the Coaches Panel Ranking released Jan. 20. Meanwhile starting 141-pound redshirt sophomore Tejon Anthony stands 16-8 on the year and junior Ibrahim Bunduka, who owns a 12-2 mark, stands #24 at 125 pounds according the Coaches Panel Ranking.

The Series
• Wednesday's match marks the ninth meeting between Navy and George Mason in a series the Mids have swept, 8-0.
• The inaugural match in the series was on Jan. 8, 1983, when Navy cruised to a 37-6 victory in Lancaster, Pa.
• The Mids have given up double-digit points to George Mason just twice in the eight previously wrestled matches, including last year's dual in Annapolis where Navy held off the Patriots, 26-18.
• This will be just the third dual between the Mids and Patriots wrestled in Fairfax - Navy beat GMU, 33-4, on Dec. 8, 2012, and 23-9 on Nov. 8, 2014.

• The Mids will make their final dual meet appearance of the year when they make the trip to West Point for the annual Army-Navy match on Sunday, Feb. 19. Action is set for 2:00 pm at Christl Arena.
