Men's Track and Field Concludes Competition at Charlotte Invite

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Navy men's track and field team competed at the Charlotte Invitational over the weekend, posting solid times and marks during competition. The Midshipmen notched 33 top 10 finishes during the two-day meet.

Navy posted four first place finishes at the Charlotte Invitational. Lucas Stalnaker won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:40.88, while Joseph Loy earned first place accolades in the shot put with a distance of 59ft-01.25in (18.01m). Sean Richards recorded a throw of 201-02 (61.33m) in the javelin to win the event. Ben Stewart tallied 6,382 points to win the decathlon.

Stalnaker was joined in the top five of the 5,00m run by teammates Jake Brophy (15:01.73) and Kevin Murray (15:10.04) who finished second and fourth, respectively.

Sean Brennan followed Loy in the shot put with a mark of 53-04.50 (16.27m) to earn fifth place, while Michael Milcarek's throw of 48-06.75 (14.80m) was good enough for 10th.

Richards won the javelin, followed by Anthony White (194-05 / 59.25m) who claimed third. David Liedtka earned sixth place in the javelin with a distance of 184-09 (56.31m).

In the decathlon, Stewart won four of the 10 events to claim first place with 6,382 points. Stewart won the long jump (21-08.75 / 6.62m), high jump (5-10.00 / 1.78m), pole vault (14-11.50 / 4.56m), and 1,500m run (4:32.42). He notched a second place finish in the 400m dash (51.88) and javelin (140-07 / 42.85m). Stewart posted a time of 11.73 in the 100m dash and 16.52 in the 110m hurdles. He threw 33-06.00 (10.21m) in the shot put and 95-09 (29.18m) in the discus.

Nikolas Fagen earned fourth place in the decathlon, amassing 5,659 points. Fagen posted times of 12.25 in the 100m, 53.59 in the 400m dash, 4:41.79 in the 1,500m run, and 16.25 in the 110m hurdles. He notched jumps of 18-11.25 (5.77m) in the long jump, 5-06.50 (1.69m) in the high jump, and 14-03.50 (4.36m) in the pole vault. In the throws, Fagen posted distances of 36-02.00 (11.02m) in the shot put, 97-09 (29.80m) in the discus, and 81-00 (24.70m) in the javelin.

The sprints saw Devin Enslen post a time of 10.59 to earn third place honors in the 100m dash, while teammate Demetrius Lanier clocked a time of 10.76 to finish seventh. Aaron Watson finished second place in the 200m dash with a time of 21.87. In the 400m dash, Daniel Kelly (48.84) edged teammate John Finnegan (49.60) to finish fifth, while Finnegan earned ninth.

Justin Hyytinen crossed the finish line with a time of 1:54.74 to earn sixth.

In the hurdles, Malcolm White Jr.'s time of 14.98 was good enough for seventh place in the 110m hurdles. Cameron Hurd was 10th in the event with a time of 15.23. White also placed seventh in the 400m hurdles, clocking a time of 54.63.

Shay Martin (9:22.46) and Cameron Allen (9:33.04) finished fourth and fifth in the 3,000m steeple chase.

The Mids' relay team of Watson, Enslen, Evan Lexo and Lanier combined for a time of 40.62 to earn second place in the 4x100m relay.

Joseph Bevilaqua (14-09.00 / 4.50m) placed fourth in the pole vaule, while Cedric Williams (22-00.25 / 6.71m) and Khaalif Wolfe (21-08.25 / 6.61m) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the long jump. In the triple jump, John Bryant posted a distance of 45-01.00 (13.74m) to earn sixth place.

Navy claimed three of the top 10 marks in both the discus and hammer throws. In the discus, Bryson Kasper was the top Mid finisher with a distance of 164-05 (50.11m) to earn fourth. In fifth place was Milcarek (160-04 / 48.87m), followed by Brennan (159-10 / 48.72m) to take sixth. The Midshipmen trio of Milcarek (175-05 / 53.48m), Brennan (174-10 / 53.28m), and Kasper (165-02 / 50.35m) finished in fifth, sixth, and seventh in the hammer throw.

Navy returns to action next weekend as the Mids will send squads to both the Virginia Challenge and the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22.
