LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Navy track and field senior
Lucas Stalnaker finished third in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday at the 2017 NCAA Division I Track and Field East Preliminary Championships in Lexington, Ky. at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex on the campus of the University of Kentucky. Stalnaker now advances to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 7-10.
Stalnaker posted his second fastest time of the season, 29:57.92, to finish third in the event. Butler's Erik Peterson won the event with a time of 29:55.06, while Samford's Arsène Guillorel took second with a time of 29:56.20. Stalnaker was third just 16 hundredths of a second faster than Kentucky's Jacob Thomson (29:58.08) who came in fourth. Middle Tennessee's Jacob Choge rounded out the top five with a time of 29:58.13.
In addition to Stalnaker, Sean Richards took part in the javelin on day one of the three-day track and field competition. Richards battled rain and other competitors to post a throw of 59.84m (196ft-04.00in) to finish in 24th.
The Midshipmen have three more student-athletes -- John Campbell, Griffie Loy, and Stefano Pineda -- competing in the NCAA East Prelims. Live results can be found HERE.
