Five Starting Notes
Navy opens its 111th season when the Mids play Tuesday at Old Dominion.

The Mids open a season away from home for the first time in five years.  Navy last began a campaign with a road game when it lost a 72-45 decision at Towson at the very beginning of the 2013-14 season.

This is the start of the eighth season with Ed DeChellis on the Navy sideline.  The Mids have compiled a 3-4 record under DeChellis in the first game of the season.  Three of those four losses have come as part of the Veterans Classic to Michigan State, Florida and Ohio State.  Navy tallied a 71-62 victory over Pitt one year ago in its opening game.

Old Dominion holds a 6-2 advantage in the overall series with Navy.  The teams will be meeting for the first time since the 1981-82 season.  To put that into context, DeChellis was a senior at Penn State that season and ODU head coach Jeff Jones was a senior at Virginia.

Navy posted a 1-3 record against American in the two seasons both DeChellis was the head coach of the Mids and Jones was the head coach of the Eagles (2011-12, 2012-13).
