Track and Field Notches Solid Performance at Home Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - In its only outdoor home meet of the season, the Navy track and field team posted 14 IC4A and ECAC qualifying times / marks at the Navy Spring Invitational at the newly renovated Ingram Field on Saturday afternoon. The women's team combined for five ECAC qualifiers, while the men tallied nine IC4A marks.

"I thought the team performed well and had a great time out here," Director of Navy Track and Field Jamie Cook said after the meet. "Part of the experience and growth is being able to deal with adversity. It was windy today, which made it difficult in some of the circle races and hurdles events, but I thought we did a really good job. We are excited for next week."

The Navy 4x100-meter relay team on the men's side notched the third fastest time in program history, clocking an IC4A qualifying time of 40.58 to win the event. Senior captain Devin Enslen (Alamogordo, N.M.) notched the 10th best time in school history in the 100m dash with an IC4A time of 10.48 to finish first in the event. Enslen was joined by Evan Lexo (Groton, Mass.) and Aaron Watson (Union City, Mich.) with IC4A qualifying times of 10.66 and 10.74, respectively. Plebe Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas) posted a qualifying time of 53.78 in the 400m hurdles to notch a win in the event, while Kevin Murray (Wilmington, Del.) won the 3,000m steeplechase with an IC4A time of 9:06.22.

In the field events, Stefano Pineda (Hockessin, Del.) notched an IC4A height of 4.85m (15-11.00) in the pole vault. Bryson Kasper (Appleton, Wis.) and Mike Milcarek (Woodinville, Wash.) won the discus and the hammer with IC4A marks. Kaspers throw of 50.45m (165-06) won the discus with Milcarek's throw of 52.94m (173-08) won the hammer event.

Senior captain Brittany Burg (Gasport, N.Y.) posted an ECAC qualifying time of 1:01.40 to win the 400-meter hurdles. The Midshipmen's relay team in the 4x100m notched an ECAC time of 47.59 to win the race.

The women's field events saw Maddi Falvey (Cypress, Texas), senior captain Ashanti Curry (Jacksonville, N.C.), and Jahna Alleyne (York, Pa.) notch ECAC marks in their respective events. Falvey posted a height of 3.72m (12-02.50) to finish in the top two of the pole vault. Curry captured the shot put with a throw of 13.73m (45.00-50), while Alleyne was able to win the discus with a distance of 43.02m (141-02).

Plebe Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas) missed an ECAC qualifying time in the 200m dash by 0.01 second, posting the seventh fastest time in Navy history of 24.75 to win the race.

On the women's side, Navy also posted first place finishes in the 100m dash, 400m dash, 10,000m run, long jump, triple jump, hammer, and javelin. Regine Tugade (Dededo, Guam) won the 100m dash with a time of 12.09, while Sydney Barber (Lake Forest, Ill.) claimed the 400m dash with a time of 59.58. Evelyn Jansen (Providence, R.I.) claimed the 10,000m with a time of 39:10.08 in the first time she ran the event this season. The long jump saw Evelyn Berecz (Downington, Pa.) post a distance of 5.50m (18-00.50) to win the event, while Lindsay Arvin (Memphis, Tenn.) won the triple jump with a distance of 11.08m (36-04.25). Curry claimed the hammer with a toss of 50.07m (164-03) and Andrea Juzyca (Milton, Mass.) won the javelin with a throw of 40.69m (133-06).

The men's team also notched victories in the 200m dash, 800m run, 1,500m run, 110m hurdles, long jump, shot put, and javelin. John Finnegan (Spring, Texas) won the 200m dash with a time of 21.80 and Josh Hanna (Winfield, Kan.) claimed the 800m run with his time of 1:56.42. Cory Donley (Salina, Kan.) was the top finisher in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:57.08. Thompson won the 110m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.40. Cedric Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) won the long jump once again this time notching a distance of 6.90m (22-07.75). In the shot put, John Barber (Sugar Land, Texas) won with a throw of 14.79m (48-06.25). Ian Myers (Beaverton, Ore.) posted a victory in the javelin, registering a distance of 58.00m (190-03).

Navy continues the outdoor season next weekend as the Midshipmen travel to West Point, N.Y. for the annual Army-Navy Outdoor Star Series meet against archrival Army.
