Distance Medley Relay Team Place Fifth at IC4A Championship

BOSTON, Mass. - The Navy track and field team sent a men's distance medley relay team to the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) Indoor Championship in Boston, Mass. over the weekend. The distance medley relay team of Jake Shewbert (Flowery Branch, Ga.), John Finnegan (Spring, Texas), Justin Hyytinen (Farmington, Minn.), and Jake Brophy (New Hope, Pa.) finished fifth overall, posting a top 10 time in program history.

The meet at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center saw the relay team compete in the preliminaries on Saturday and conclude action in the finals on Sunday.

In the preliminaries on Saturday, the quartet of Shewbert, Finnegan, Hyytinen, and Brophy finished second in overall with a time of 9:54.25 to qualify for the finals. The time was just outside of the Navy all-time top 10 and was the fastest time of the year for the Midshipmen.

The Mids finished fifth in the finals of the event on Sunday. Shewbert, Finnegan, Hyytinen, and Brophy combined for a time of 9:49.39 in the finals to post the ninth fastest time in Navy history.

Navy concludes the indoor season with the NCAA Indoor Championship in College Station, Texas on March 9-10, while the 2018 outdoor season officially begins with the San Diego Challenge in San Diego, Calif. on Saturday, March 10.
