ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On Tuesday, Navy Director of Track and Field / Cross Country Jamie Cook announced the addition of assistant coaches Bobby Carter and Joe Delgado to the track and field staff, while Navy head cross country coach Aaron Lanzel will also serve as an assistant for distance events.

Carter, a former All-American at the University of Nebraska, joins the Midshipmen after a year at Oral Roberts University, where he directed his group to 10 school records, 10 individual Summit League Championships and two NCAA All-Americans. Delgado, an All-American at the University of Oregon under Cook, comes to Annapolis after completing his final season of eligibility at the University of Louisville, where he finished as the top American in the 2018 NCAA decathlon to earn All-America accolades once again.

"We are very excited to complete our staff," Cook said. "We feel confident moving forward that we can serve our athletes' needs the best with a variety of coaches who can coach a number of events, as well as recruit the best and brightest to the Naval Academy. After undergoing an exhaustive national search, we found Bobby, Joe, and Aaron to be the best fit for our athletes to thrive in this competitive environment.

"Bobby came highly recommended from some of the best coaches in the world, and I am extremely excited to welcome he and his family to Annapolis. I know his high level of expertise will be implemented immediately at the Academy.

"I've known Joe for years. I recruited him to Oregon. I have been able to watch him grow and flourish as an athlete and as a leader. He is an unbelievable man with high character. I was excited to bring some youth and energy to our program."

Both Carter and Delgado will assist the Mids in the sprints, jumps, and multi-events.

"I am definitely excited to be here," Carter said. "I want to thank the ORU staff I worked with and also the previous staff at Nebraska. I want to thank Coach Cook for giving me the opportunity to be here. I am excited to hit the ground running and help the team build on its winning tradition."

"I can't express how excited I am to have the opportunity to coach our nation's future leaders," stated Delgado. "I look forward to competing against Army alongside my former coach, Jamie Cook, and the other members of the coaching staff."

Last year, the Midshipmen men's team won the Patriot League Indoor Championship for the sixth consecutive year with Cook being named Patriot League Coach of the Year. In addition, the men's track and field team earned a Star during the indoor season by beating Army, 97-84, in Annapolis.

During the outdoor season, both the men's and the women's track and field teams claimed Patriot League Outdoor Championships with Cook picking up his second Patriot League Coach of the Year accolade. The track and field team claimed two more Stars by winning both the men's and women's outdoor competitions against Army. In addition, the men's track and field team won the IC4A Outdoor Championships for the first time since 1973.

The men's and women's track and field teams posted numerous times and marks in Navy's all-time top-10, including breaking 10 school records. The Midshipmen sent seven student-athletes to the NCAA East Regionals with javelin thrower Sean Richards advancing to National Championships.
