ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The No. 9 Navy gymnastics team will turn its focus to one-on-one dual action this weekend with an Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League (EIGL) meet at No. 15 William & Mary on Saturday. With the 2019 Army-Navy Star Meet on the horizon on Feb. 2, the Mids will look to fine tune their lineup and routines versus the Tribe in the contest at Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg, Va. The 4 p.m. meet will mark the third time this season that the teams have seen each other in competition as both Navy and William & Mary were entrants at the West Point and Navy Opens on Jan. 11 and 19, respectively. The Mids bested the Tribe in both meets as they outscored them 395.60 to 382.65 at West Point and 400.55 to 378.95 last weekend in Annapolis.
Last Time Out
Navy team came out last Saturday and thrilled its home fans with a dominant 21.6-point win over the field at the 2019 Navy Open. In just their second meet of the 2019 season, the Mids surpassed the 400-point barrier with a score of 400.55. Buoyed by team victories in all six events and individual wins in five of the six rotations, Navy easily finished atop the four-team field in the event at Macdonough Hall. William & Mary and Springfield battled down to the end for second place as the Tribe edged the Pride by 0.3 points, 378.95 to 378.65. Temple finished fourth on Saturday with 349.20 points.
As a team, Navy scored 67.8 points on the floor exercise, 63.7 on the pommel horse, 68.6 on the rings, 70.75 on the vault, 63.9 on the parallel bars and 65.8 on the high bar. The Mids were 2.0 points or better on four of the apparatus and were most closely challenged on the p-bars where they bettered the Pride by 0.15 points.
Individually,
Lucas Beltran led the way for Navy at the meet as he won a pair of events, the floor exercise and the vault. Other event winners for the Mids on Saturday, included
Ryan Orce on the pommel horse,
Ben Provost on the parallel bars and
Cash Buske on the high bar.
For his efforts, Beltran was selected as the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week.

Jan. 27, 2018 (Annapolis) - In a home tri-meet versus William & Mary and Temple at Macdonough Hall, a fast start with four team event wins over the first four rotations bolstered the Mids' effort and led to an eventual 7.1-point victory. Navy finished with 396.4 points, while William & Mary recorded 389.3 points.
March 3, 2018 (Williamsburg) - Navy opened its busy weekend with a 7.40-point victory over William & Mary on the road. Facing off versus the Tribe in the first of two EIGL competitions for the weekend, the Mids outscored the hosts by a score of 390.85-383.45 at Kaplan Arena. Strong team outings on the pommel horse, parallel bars and high bar led the Mids on Friday night to the win. The team initially built out its lead on the pommel horse after scoring 5.80 points more than the Tribe at 64.85-59.05. The Mids' parallel bars and high bar lineups also extended their lead down the stretch with 63.0 and 64.4-point scores, respectively.
March 17, 2018 (Annapolis) - Navy closed its regular season schedule with a hotly-contested tri-meet versus Michigan and William & Mary. After celebrating its senior Class of 2018 prior to the competition, the Mids came out inspired and ready to go versus a talented Big Ten squad in Michigan and their EIGL rival, William & Mary at Macdonough Hall. At the conclusion of the event, the Wolverines edged the Mids, 403.55-399.15. The Tribe finished over 10 points back at 388.1. Individually, 10 Mids recorded top-five finishes across the six apparatuses.
