Swimming and Diving Teams Have Final Meets Before Championship Season Starts

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy swimming and diving teams will compete in their last meets prior to the start of the championship portion of their seasons this weekend.  The women's team will play host to Richmond Friday in a dual meet and Saturday in time trials, and the men's team will travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to take part in Saturday's Bison Invite hosted by Bucknell.

The Navy (9-3) and Richmond (2-5) women's teams will compete in a 13-event dual meet Friday at 4 p.m. in Lejeune Hall.  The teams will then both train and race together for conference championship seedings and NCAA Championship cut times in a brief session starting Saturday at 9 a.m.

Live results from both sessions can be found at NavySports.com (link will not work until just before the start of the meet).

"On the heels of having two very good weeks of training, our team is excited about hosting our last dual meet against Richmond," said Navy women's swimming head coach John Morrison.  "Richmond is well coached and brings a team small in numbers but strong in talent.  We will need the prowess of our depth to stay strong and compete well.  Equally exciting is the two-day preparation for our upcoming championship season.  We will be looking for this opportunity to race and continue to learn from the racing as we prep for the Patriot League and ECAC championship meets."

Navy will be competing for the first time since dropping decisions to North Carolina and Penn State on Jan. 12.

Included among Richmond's results this year were opening weekend losses to Boston U. and Bucknell.  The Spiders placed second at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship.

Navy and Richmond have not met since the 2005-06 season.  The Spiders hold an 8-3 lead in the all-time series.

The Bison Invite is a non-scoring meet that starts at noon at Kinney Natatorium, host venue for the upcoming Patriot League Championship.  In addition to the Bison and the Navy men's team, additional entrants include American, Army West Point, Delaware, Lafayette and Shippensburg.

Links to live results from the meet also can be found at NavySports.com.

"This weekend is a terrific opportunity to race and compete," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts.  "It is our final competition prior to the start of our championship season.  We have a lot to continue to work on and are looking forward to this meet aiding our prep work."

Following this weekend, the Mids will set their sights on the Feb. 19-23 Patriot League Championship.
