ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy men's tennis team will play host to the second of its three fall tournaments this weekend. The three-day event that runs Friday (10 a.m. start), Saturday (9 a.m.) and Sunday (9 a.m.) will feature players from seven teams competing in both singles and doubles flights.
The field is comprised of players from Navy, Mount St. Mary's, Drexel, Morgan State, George Washington, NJIT and La Salle. The event will not feature team scoring.
All of Navy's available tennis courts, both on The Yard and inside and outside of the Brigade Sports Complex, will be utilized this weekend.
Navy will not be sending any players to this weekend's River City Open in Richmond, Va., as was previously planned.
Navy's first home tournament of the autumn, the Sept. 27-29 Joe Hunt Invite, saw a pair of Navy's doubles teams and four of its singles players win their respective round robin grouping. In doubles, the team of
Romesh Kahatapitiya (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) and
Sam Vagner (So., Staten Island, N.Y.) won its group with a 3-0 record before losing its playoff match. Also, the pairing
Jack Dabek (So., Dublin, Ohio) and
Jake Fishkin (So., Baltimore, Md.) notched a 2-1 round-robin record and won its playoff match.
Kahatapitiya also won his singles grouping with a 3-0 record and went on to win his playoff match. Equaling that overall 4-0 record were
Matthew Lee (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) and
Peter Lohrbach (Jr., Little Neck, N.Y.). Also,
Christian Pumpelly (Fr., Atlanta, Ga.) tallied a 2-1 record to win his group and won his playoff match.
