ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy men's tennis team combined to win round robin groups in 10 singles flights and four doubles draw this weekend at the Navy Blue Invitational. 

"The team had a number of very competitive matches this weekend," said Navy head coach Chris Garner.  "We have seen improvement in a number of areas since the start of the season, and saw a few more this weekend we can focus on moving forward."

In singles, Jake Fishkin (So., Baltimore, Md.) posted a 3-0 record to reach the championship match of the blue flight against Drexel's Xandy Hammitt.  Fishkin would record a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Hammitt in the final.

Peter Lohrbach (Jr., Little Neck, N.Y.) also did not drop a match during the round robin portion of the purple draw.  He then held a 3-0 lead in the first set of his playoff match against Parth Sharma from Mount St. Mary's when Sharma retired.

Conners O'Brien (So., Rensselaer, N.Y.) tallied a 4-0 record on the weekend as he posted a 3-0 mark in the yellow round robin matches and won his playoff match over NJIT's Luka Dragoljic, 6-2, 6-4.

Finn Garner (Fr., Arnold, Md.) won his white round robin group with a 3-0 record but lost, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, in the final to Ben Barnett from George Washington.

Also winning round robin groups for Navy were Gavin Segraves (Fr., Charlottesville, Va.) and Jan Kellberg (So., White Plains, N.Y.) in the green flight, Jack Dabek (So., Dublin, Ohio) and Christian Pumpelly (Fr., Atlanta, Ga.) in the orange flight and Andrew Ton (Jr., Milpitas, Calif.) and Derrick Thompson (So., Towson, Md.) in the red flight.  The championship matches of those draws were not contested.

Four Navy teams also won round robin groups on the weekend.  The blue draw saw the teams of Garner and Reilly Wilson (Fr., Greensboro, N.C.) and Matthew Lee (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) and Pumpelly each post 3-0 records.  In the red draw, Dabek and Greg Durham (Sr., Melbourne Beach, Fla.) won one group, with Thompson and Ton winning the other.  Neither the blue nor the red flight championship matches were played.

Derrick and Jack were very impressive in both singles and doubles this weekend," said Garner.  "Jake, Gavin, Peter, Conners and Christian impressed with stringing together four singles wins each, while Andrew, Greg, Reilly and Finn went undefeated in doubles play."

Navy's fall season continues this week when the Mids take part in the ITA Atlantic Region Championship in Charlottesville, Va.
