ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team heads into the final stretch of it regular-season slate as the Midshipmen competed in the two interconference regattas in Connecticut at the ICSA Coed Showcase and the Yale Women's Regatta, while also sending a team to the J22 East Coast Championship.
At the showcase final at Connecticut College, the top 18 from the first round of showcase regattas met for the Fiske, Harriman and Sleigh Trophies. The field was deep and was set up for strong racing throughout the weekend. However, the conditions did not cooperate in the northeast. In between lengthy delays, there were brief periods of light air racing with large, unpredictable wind shifts and lulls. The Midshipmen were up and down but were within striking distance throughout the nine-race series. A lackluster finish in marginally sailable conditions dropped Navy to ninth overall.
JC Hermus and
Sally Johnson finished 10th overall in the A division and
Parker Loftus and
Kimmie Leonard placed 10th in the B division.
In the Yale Women's Regatta, the conditions were a little better but still tricky as Navy improved from a rough start. However, the Midshipmen had a tough time stringing together top finishes and placed 16th out of 17 teams.
Jessica McJones and
Anna Cutler were 12th in the A Division, while
Carlyn Blauvelt and
Elizabeth Linsdell were 16th in the B division.
Navy also had a boat compete in the J22 East Coast Championship in Annapolis. The team of
Jack Carminati,
Louis Margay and
Gray Benson battled light air on the first day, followed by heavy wind and rain on the second day to finish 12th overall in the 18-boat fleet.
The final week of the regular season is up next for the Midshipmen as they compete at the MAISA Fall Women's Regatta and the War Memorial Regatta.
