Navy Notes
• Navy has played one of its most challenging schedules in recent years, battling three teams in the top 15 and two in the top 10 to date - #15 Western Ontario, #9 Virginia, #4 Princeton
• With his 3-0 victory over Dickinson's Tanay Murdia on Wednesday, team captain
Michael Kacergis is just one win shy of joining the Mids' all-time top-25 wins list with a 54-28 record. David Koenig (2011-14) turned in a 55-19 record over his four seasons and stands 25th on the list.
•
Owen Davis, meanwhile, scored his 50th collegiate victory on Nov. 13 at Virginia. Playing the #3 spot on the ladder, Davis swept the Cavaliers' William Holley (8,8,5). He, too, has the opportunity to join the Mids' all-time top-25 wins list with four wins this weekend.
•
Jack Lentz has put together a team-best 5-2 record as the Mids' No. 1 player and is looking to add his name to Navy's 50-win club. The three-year starter has amassed a 43-17 career record.
About the Opponents
• Navy owns a combined 107-58 record against its four opponents this weekend - MIT (55-0), Denison (16-9), Bucknell (9-0), Penn (27-49).
• MIT enters the weekend with a 3-1 record, earning wins over Boston University (9-0), Boston College (9-0) and Northeastern (9-0). The Engineers' lone loss was an 8-1 decision to top-ranked Harvard on Wednesday. Junior Brad Levin scored MIT's victory against the Crimson, posting a 4-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-1 victory at the No. 9 spot.
• Denison is 0-3 with losses to chatham (6-3), Bucknell (7-2) and Hobart (9-0). No. 6 player Reece Quigley has won two of his three matches, while Michael Ferrick (#4), Maximilian Mehm (#7) and Michael Chin Lee (#8) have each won one match.
• Bucknell, who stands 4-4, has played more matches to date than any other team playing at Navy this weekend. The Bison have beaten Denison (7-2), Lafayette (7-2), Stanford (6-3) and Northeastern (6-3), while their losses have been to Chatham (6-3), Northeastern (6-3), Bard (6-3) and Cal (7-2). Bucknell's 4, 5 and 6 players - Kyle Ferguson, Bryan Yekelchik and tarquin Hanson - lead the team with five wins apiece.
• Penn is off to a 2-0 start to the year, shutting out Dickinson (9-0) before scoring a 6-3 victory over #11 Drexel last Sunday. The Quakers are coming off a 14-4 season that saw them place third in the Potter Cup at the 2019 College Squash Association Team Championship. Penn returns six of its nine players off last year's ladder, including the top four players - Andrew Douglas, Aly Abou Eleinen, James Flynn, David Yacobucci. Saksham Choudhary, James Flynn, Dillon Huang and David Yacobucci are all 2-0 this season.
What's Ahead
• Navy will step away from the competition courts to concentrate on final exams and enjoy the holiday break. The Mids will return to action on Jan. 8 when they play host to #2 Trinity.
