Navy Squash Splits Weekend Matches, Closes Out Calendar Year

The 16th-ranked Navy men's squash team won two of its four matches over the weekend, earning 9-0 sweeps over Denison and Bucknell while dropping matches to #17 MIT (6-3) and #3 Penn (9-0).

The Highlights
•  Navy is now 6-5 at the midway point of its season, earning wins over Fordham, Haverford, Boston University, Dickinson, Denison and Bucknell. The Mids' losses have come against #15 Western Ontario, #9 Virginia, #4 Princeton, #17 MIT and #3 Penn.
•  Ten of the 11 players who were in action for the Mids over the weekend earned a win.
•  Navy opened the MIT match with a hard-fought three-game victory by No. 1 player Jack Lentz (Jr / Philadelphia, Pa.). The Engineers, however, went on to win six straight matches to secure the win.
•  Navy did not relinquish a game in its mirroring 9-0 victories over Denison and Bucknell on Saturday, winning all 18 matches by 3-0 marks.
•  Ben Korn (So / Stevenson, Md.) was the lone Navy player to take a game in the Mids' match against #3 Penn on Sunday. Korn evened his match against David Yacobucci with a 12-10 win in the second game, but Yacobucci went on to win the next two games for the 3-1 victory.
•  Owen Davis (Sr / Rydal, Pa.) and Millen Randell (Fr / Chicago, Ill.) put together 3-1 marks to lead the way for the Mids this weekend. Davis, Randell and Lentz are now atop Navy's wins list with seven. Lentz and Davis are 7-3, while Randell is 7-4.
•  Davis and team captain Michael Kacergis (Sr / Malvern, Pa.) now have 54 career wins and are just one win away from joining Navy's all-time wins list.
•  Korn, Ryan York (So / Hunt Valley, Md.), Tommy Rankin (Fr / Atlanta, Ga.), Gus Prager (So / New York, N.Y.) and Joe Kacergis (Fr / Malvern, Pa.) all finished the weekend with 2-2 marks. Prager, Rankin and York head into the break with matching 6-5 records.

What's Ahead
• Navy will step away from the competition courts to concentrate on final exams and enjoy the holiday break. The Mids will return to action on Jan. 8 when they play host to #2 Trinity.
