BOSTON, Mass. – The Navy track and field competed in the final day of the indoor season at the BU Last Chance Meet in Boston, Mass. The Midshipmen broke a pair of records and posted a total of 11 top-10 performances on the day.

Regine Tugade (Dededo, Guam) and Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas) broke school records on the day. Tugade notched a time of 24.46 in the 200m dash to break the school record. This season, Navy runners have posed eight of the top 10 times in the 200m dash, including four times by Tugade. Edwards clocked a time of 54.79 in the 400m dash to top Tineisha Davis' school-record set back in 2002.

"The whole idea of going up to a last chance meet is to set some school records and put up some personal bests," associate head coach Chris Campbell said after the meet. "I think that Regine and Chelsey did a great job and were able to set some school records. The throwers did a great job, posting some personal bests. It was a fast track that allowed us to post some very good times. I thought overall there was enough positive performances to make it worth it for the 26 student-athletes to travel up to Boston and compete in this meet. Now we have to turn our attention towards the outdoor season."

Freshman Bronte Bacchetta (Atlanta, Ga.) notched the eighth fastest time in Navy history in the 800m run with a time of 2:11.35. In the throws, Sam Orie (Greensburg, Pa.) and Ariana McKenzie (Potomac, Md.) posted top 10 performances in the weight throw, while Orie registered the second-best throw in school history in the shot put. McKenzie notched a distance of 18.24m (59-10.25) in the weight throw for the third best mark in Navy history. Orie's weight throw distance of 17.82m (58-05.75) ranked 10th in school history, while her throw of 14.42m (47-03.75) in the shot put was the second-best in Navy's record book. In addition, the 4x400m relay team of Kara Kakascik (Weirton, W.Va.), Edwards, Lauren Heaton (Russia, Ohio), and Chloe Alfieri (Harvard, Mass.) combined for the ninth fastest time in school history, clocking a time of 3:50.51.

On the men's side, John Finnegan (Spring, Texas) posted a time of 1:50.84 in the 800m run for the ninth fastest time in school history. Finnegan also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay, joining Eric Hughey (Lee's Summit, Mo.), Cameron Hurd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), and Simon Petsch (Billings, Mont.) for a time of 3:13.64 to rank seventh in program history. Throwers Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.) and Mike Milcarek (Woodinville, Wash.) posted the third and ninth best marks in the weight throw in Navy history, respectively. Brennan became the third student-athlete at Navy to break 20-meters with a throw of 20.07m (65-10.25), while Milcarek was just shy with a throw of 19.73m (64-08.75).

Navy now turns its attention to the track and field outdoor season. The Midshipmen travel to La Jolla, Calif. to take part in the San Diego Challenge on Saturday, March 9.
