ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team combined for 42 ECAC / IC4A qualifying times / marks at the 2019 Navy Spring Invitational on Saturday at Ingram Field in Annapolis, Md. The men's team tallied 29 IC4A qualifiers, while the women's team notched 13 ECAC qualifiers.
"I think we were able to accomplish what we wanted to with this meet," Director of Navy Track and Field
Jamie Cook said. "We had a good number of people get out here and be able to compete a little bit. We had a good day. It got a little windy, but was nice and warm. We will take that for the end of March. The student-athletes looked pretty good. They were excited. There were a lot of teams here and I thought the energy was good."
Amanda Henson (West Barnstable, Mass.) posted a time of 24.53 in the 200m dash, while Lindsay Lewis (Lanham, Md.) and Katherine Halbert (Keller, Texas) registered times of 14.21 and 14.51, respectively, in the 100m hurdles. In the 400m hurdles, Sydney Barber (Lake Forest, Ill.) clocked an ECAC time of 1:02.23, while Amanda Agana (Fayetteville, Ark.) finished with a qualifying time of 1:03.00.
The relay team of Henson, Chelsey Edwards (Schertz, Texas), Regine Tugade (Dededo, Guam), and Chloe Alfieri (Harvard, Mass.) combined for an ECAC time of 47.28.
In the field events, Maddi Falvey (Cypress, Texas) posted a height of 3.72 (12-02.50) in the pole vault. Sam Orie (Greensburg, Pa.) registered a distance of 13.88m (45-06.50) in the shot put and 43.61m (143-01) in the discus. Ariana McKenzie (Potomac, Md.) recorded a throw of 54.69m (179-05) in the hammer to finish just ahead of Orie, who notched a distance of 53.08m (174-02) in the event.
On the men's side, the Mids posted nine IC4A qualifiers in the sprints.
Aaron Watson (Union City, Mich.),
Jonathan Nainggolan (Etiwanda, Calif.), and
Austin Pierce (Dahlonega, Ga.) registered qualifying times in the 100m dash of 10.73, 10.95, and 10.97, respectively.
Evan Lexo (Groton, Mass.) qualified in the 200m dash with a time of 21.34, joining Pierce (21.84),
Eric Hughey (21.95 – Lee's Summit, Mo.), and Nainggolan (22.06).
John Finnegan (Spring, Texas) posted a time of 47.34 in the 400m dash, while
Simon Petsch (Billings, Mont.) clocked a time of 48.34 in the event.
Jake Brophy (New Hope, Pa.) and
Nicholas Williams (Bristol, R.I.) registered times in the 800m run of 1:52.06 and 1:53.50, while
David Nelsen (Chandler, Ariz.) and
Ashwin Briggs (Pickerington, Ohio) qualified in the 1,500m run with times of 3:55.40 and 3:56.03.
In the 100m hurdles,
Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas),
Cameron Hurd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), and
Hunter Wargo (West Branch, Iowa) finished 1-2-3 among Navy hurdlers. Thompson clocked a time of 14.29, while Hurd registered a 14.55 and Wargo crossed the finish line in 14.84.
Kevin Murray (Wilmington, Del.) finished the 3,000m steeplechase in an IC4A qualifying time of 8:57.71.
The 4x100m relay saw the team of Watson, Pierce, Lexo, and
Demetrius Lanier () combined for a qualifying time of 40.82, while the quartet of Titgen, Hughey, Finnegan, and
Richard Hansen (Houston, Texas) clocked a time of 41.39.
Stefano Pineda (Hockessin, Del.) notched a height of 4.87m (15-11.75) in the pole vault, while
Benjamin Stewart (Charlestown, R.I.) registered a distance of 7.07m (23-02.50) in the long jump.
In the throws,
Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.) qualified in the shot put (16.59m / 54-05.25), the discus (50.02m / 164-01), and the hammer throw (59.55m / 195-04).
John Barber (Sugar Land, Texas) notched qualifying throws in the shot put (16.58m / 54-04.75) and the discus (47.87m / 157-01).
Mike Milcarek (Woodinville, Wash.) notched IC4A marks in the shot put (16.17m (53-00.75) and the hammer throw (58.90m / 193-03), while
Tommy Reeder (Kiln, Miss.) qualified in the hammer (53.49m / 175-06).
Navy returns to action on Saturday, April 6 as the Midshipmen hosts Army West Point in the annual Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet as part of the Star Series presented by USAA.
