Thirteen Set to Compete at NCAA Track and Field East Preliminaries

The NCAA Regional meet begins on Thursday, May 23 goes through Saturday, May 25.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team will have 13 student-athletes represent the Academy at the 2019 NCAA East Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. The NCAA Regional meet begins on Thursday, May 23 goes through Saturday, May 25. The 13 student-athletes and one alternate will compete in 11 individual events and one relay.
 
Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.), John Finnegan (Spring, Texas), Emma Foster (Poteet, Texas), Hayden Fox (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Eric Hughey (Lee's Summit, Mo.), Cameron Hurd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), Skyler Mason (Oakdale, Pa.), Kevin Murray (Wilmington, Del.), Simon Petsch (Billings, Mont.), Stefano Pineda (Hockessin, Del.), Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas), Jadyn Tiracave (Ashville, Pa.), Cedric Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) are all set to compete. Evan Lexo (Groton, Mass.) is also making the trip, serving as an alternate on the Navy relay team.
 
The 13 Navy competitors nearly doubled the amount from the previous season (seven) who competed at the NCAA East Preliminaries.
 
The Midshipmen have a majority of competitors taking part in the field events. Brennan, who served as a captain this season, will be competing in the most events for the Midshipmen. The senior will participate in the shot put, hammer throw, and discus. Fox and Mason will be taking part in the javelin on the men's side, while Foster and Tiracave will throw the javelin for the women. Pineda returns to the Regionals for the second consecutive season to compete in the pole vault, while Williams qualified and will compete in the triple jump.
 
Navy has a pair competing in individual running events. Finnegan will participate the 800m run, while Murray will take part in the 3,000m steeplechase.
 
In the hurdles, Thompson will compete in both the 110m and 400m hurdles, while Hurd will join Thompson in the 400m hurdles.
 
The quartet of Hughey, Petsch, Hurd, and Finnegan will take part in the 4x400m relay. Lexo will serve as an alternate in the event.
