JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Navy track and field 4x400m relay team of Eric Hughey (Lee's Summit, Mo.), Simon Petsch (Billings, Mont.), Cameron Hurd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), and John Finnegan (Spring, Texas) combined for a school-record time of 3:07.24 to finish 11th overall and qualify for nationals in the last heat of the last race of the day at the NCAA East Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.

"It was a good day," Director of Navy Track and Field Jamie Cook said. "It was amazing for those guys not only qualify, but to qualify like they did with a school record. It was almost perfect. They have worked so hard all season individually and as a relay team. It nice to see their hard work pay off. It was amazing."

Navy will now send the 4x400m relay team to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas. In addition, freshman Hayden Fox (Pittsburgh, Pa.) will be headed to nationals. Fox qualified in the javelin with a distance of 67.35m (220-11) on Friday.

In the triple jump, Cedric Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) posted a distance of 14.87m (48-09.50) to finish 36th. The distance was the junior's third best jump this season.

In his final completion as a Midshipmen, senior captain Sean Brennan (Westfield, N.J.) finished 23rd in the shot put with a distance of 17.85m (58-06.75). The toss was the 10th best in Navy history. Brennan finished the day with PRs in his final two throws of his career.

"Sean Brennan recorded two PRs in his final meet, which was special," Cook said of his captain. "It was great for him to end his career on a high note. Fellow captains Amanda Henson and Demetrius Lanier flew down after graduation and were there to cheer on everyone today. It was a special moment to have all of the captains here today."
